I cannot believe that Obama is wanting to raise minimum wage to $9 an hour. Starting pay for new paramedics is not much more than that, and they are saving lifes not flipping burgers. People think that they should be able to make a living working a minimum wage job. Well they cannot. A minimum wage job is suppose to be a starting point and not a career. You get a minimum wage job to get experience to move foward in your career. I started at minimum wage job making $5.15 an hour. I worked that job in high school and while I was in college. College did not work out for me and I went into the military. While in the military I earned some great experience and training. After I got out of the military I was able to get a good paying job with great benifits to support my family.

The last time that minimum wage was raised food prices went up, food prices went up, gas prices went up, and the unemployment rate double in less than a year. Our economy is finally starting to show the signs of recovery, and raising minimum wage will most likey cause the economy to collapse again. Even with a good paying job and benefits I am having trouble putting money away into savings. It is hard to save money when the price of everything keeps rising, and raising the minimum wage by almost 25% is insane.

Stupidity. Raising min wage does nothing but as you said, drive inflation through the roof. Cutting taxes and drastically cutting spending is the only thing that will help but the dems are too shallow to see it.

We live in an age where the 1% has dissolved this country into a wasteland. It all comes down to greed. Corporations executives make millions and the guys keeping their product in existence can barely survive. They see an opportunity to raise the price of something then they do.
Rent goes up, gas goes up, bills go up, food goes up, everything goes up.
And yet you don't see a need to raise minimum wage?

Most of the companies out there that have executives making millions of dollars are not paying their lowest workers minimum wage. If you want to make more money get some type of job training. Don't expect the governent to give you a pay raise, earn a pay raise.

Yes because the factories and places around richmond pay so well. I have more than earned many pay raises. You honestly think companies pay what the job is worth? Then you sir, are ignorant. Minimum wage is what they pay because that's the lowest they are allowed to. If they could pay less, they would. It's all about maximizing profit and minimizing expenses

Ain't nothing wrong with raising the minimum wage you stupid MF! What IS wrong is the SPECULATORS?????? who seem to get a hardon raising the price of gas! There's no shortage of oil/gas, just shortage of backbone by these speculators who are being paid by the oil company's owners/executives to raise the prices so that these bastards can have more riches in their coffers for future expensive vacations/whoremongering or whatever the flock they do with the profits from gas prices that hardworking people who HAVE to drive to make a living are providing for these leeches. They should all be procecuted for price gouging and sent to jail! Ain't gonna happen, but at least it feels good to rant about it.

Which factories only pay minimum wage? I believe you are uninformed. The factories in the area actually pay pretty well. They have to so they are able to retain employees. Local factory employees receive annual raises and benefits and have opportunities for promotion. A large percentage of local companies also send their employees for free (free for the employee) job related training. No one has to remain in an entry level position unless that is their desire.

We are all bitching about the price of oil, but the last time the minimum wage was raised unemployment rate went from 5% to over 10% in less than a year. Let's raise minimum wage and make unemployment even worse. Almost every type of retail has people working for minimum wage. When the minimum wage goes up so does the price of everything, and that will include the price of gas.

Gas prices have doubled since obama has been president. Probably because he artificially lowers the supply by not tapping into the sources that we have here in the us. Oil production in the us is at a low, but don't expect the media to tell you. Raising minimum wage will only be evened out with the rise in prices of food and other expenses. Then people will say man there should be another raise in minimum wage, when will people wake up?

The problem around here is people think 9 - 15$ an hour is "good money". i never said most factories pay minimum wage. I insinuated that they didn't pay well. Most start around 8-9$ an hour. I was making that at an entry level job many years ago. When everything was cheaper.

Actually, you are the ignorant one. When the min wage is raise, other prices will rise AGAIN. It is called inflation. That is the effect of a government forcing employers to pay menial laborers more per hour. These companies then pass the cost along to all of us....if of course the companies even choose to stay in the United States.

The US is loosing businesses hand over fist because we tax them to death, regulate them to death and then tell them how much they have to pay. Let me tell you something, do you realize that there are people in other countries that will do the job you do right now for far less and not whine about it? Do you realize that in other countries businesses do not have to make sure employees have breaks, lunch hours, paid time off, insurance etc. We have become a nation of spoiled entitled children. I don't blame the businesses for leaving.

So next time you start calling people names because they don't feel the government need to force companies to give you a raise, do yourself a favor and shut the hell up. YOU are what is wrong with this country.

I like how when some one agrees with raising minimum wage, you automatically assume they have a minimum wage job and are a low life a democrat or any other of your ridiculous assumptions. This further proves your ignorance.

How does this prove my ignorance? Are you saying you are not a democrat? Are you saying you don't have a menial job? Then say it and stop talking around the issue.

Oh and I like how when someone has nothing of merit or value to add to a conversation they just attack the people who do. I'll say it again, people like YOU are what is wrong with this country.

You raise minimum wage, then the corporations will just raise the prices of everything in order to keep the same percentage of profit. What we need is a living wage. Prices of items go up, then wages go up too. It's a system that works and provides it's own checks and balances.

Living wage idea would tear a hole in the time space continuum and destroy the universe. Companies would keep raising prices to offset the living wage which in turn would keep raising. Hyperinflation would prevail and we would be back to trying to trade a dozen eggs and a baby calf to pay our mortgage.

I care for what most people would consider to be the most important thing in their lives. I say most people because you would not believe some of the parents I have came across in my life. Not only do I work there but I am the director. I make $8.00 per hr. I get no paid vacation or sick time. I have been there for years. I am sure you understand I don't stay for the pay. I love the children. But at the same time it would be nice to make more money. I have graduated. But jobs are very hard to find. An the school system is only hiring subs right now. An I can not live off of getting a call whenever someone else calls in sick.

amen to that!!!!! And it's criminal for our government not to teach this to our children!!! And it's criminal and neglect for US not to teach this to our kids!!!!!! Here is a great example of what you say explained in $ and cents!
$350 per month at a 8% return for 40 years. Start at 20 at 60 years old you will have $1,229,999.30 people wake up and demand that schools start teaching this to our kids. The government wants you broke so they can control you. Its politics people! start to control your life by controlling yourself you can do it!!

Or since we are talking minimum wage here a kid starts a Roth IRA with after tax money. at 18 years old paying himself first $130 per month and investing it at10%. what will he get for HIS reward of delayed gratification ? No drugs, no alcohol no stds but at age 60 after investing $130 per month every month for all those 48 years $1,015,150.63!!
