This is an example of the sad makeup of topix. On one hand it allows this person to feel better about themselves even if it is built upon a lie and on the other hand it shows the pitiful state of folks.
Another clue, no PA I have ever known would be so disrespectful and speak in the manner this person does. Plus what they have said is not possible.
The thread was not even about this anyway but it is insightful about the people that respond.
Sad.
Who really gives a F#$K. This post was about Mayfield Elem. closing! Is it? Since Mr. Lowe retired, maybe it went downhill? Whatever; quit worrying about whether this person is a PA. Does it affect you? If not, STF up!

It does matter because they are trying desperately to make themselves sound credible when they are not. Like claiming to have a certain profession makes their opinion matter more than anyone else's. I'm sorry, but for one the person is a liar. For two, even if they were a pa, their opinion doesn't matter. None of our opinions matter. No one gets that. You have to look at fact based evidence. If there are signs that show that this school is physically in ruins and these teachers fall below national standards then it is parent responsibility to make sure their kids get placed where they are comfortable. If they aren't happy then they need to find an alternative and not bitch Bout it. That's it.

Detroit isn't a ghetto. It is a war zone of destruction and rubble. It was the model city for democratic socialist liberal left agenda and entitlement programs. Now it is the perfect example of what results from this type of agenda and all these entitlement programs. Detroit is a turd, it is the end result of hope & change, it is the future for the rest of America. Own it, its yours.

mayfield is a amazing school. spend 5 min in that school and you will see what that school offers their students that other schools dont. the teachers are special, the students feel comfort and love and importance. they get an education that is far beyond what a test score says about them.

our daughter attends mayfields and honestly had the same opinion about mayfield before we attended school there. and we have loved every min and every aspect about that school. our family is far from poverty and far from the ghetto. unfortunately this school gets a different demographic then some other schools, but we wouldnt have it any other way. she gets one on one attention from faculty and staff, exceeds academically, and has found a core group of friends that have stuck together since the beginning.

give it a shot, or show up to the board meeting on 11/14/13 at madison southern at 6:00 and help our kids and yours own stay where they are meant stay.

My children attend mayfield and no we do not live in the ghetto. I am involved in my children's school and care about their education. The teachers, faculty and staff are all amazing and they care about the kids. Its the parents job to be involved in their child's education. And why is it continually being called a ghetto school? You all do realize that its location is right at Ridgewoods back door right? I believe that is the name of that newer subdivision. Either way mayfield is a great school and I really hate to lose these wonderful people who have been a part of my child's education to a kindergarten academy.

Info from a press release from the MC Board of Education . . . If approved by the Board, Madison County will open four all-day Kindergarten academies next Fall 2014: Kingston, Waco, Shannon Johnson (with students from Shannon Johnson, Silver Creek, and Kirksville) and Mayfield (students from White Hall, Glenn Marshall, Kit Carson, Daniel Boone, and some from Kirksville). Mayfield will close as an elementary school and only be used for Kindergarten. The other 2 options under consideration are mobile classrooms (aka trailers) and redistricting. They will be meeting Thurs Nov 14th at Southern Auditorium, and this is on the agenda.

I believe the best solution would be redistricting because it would fix both the overcrowding issues that have been going on for years and the all day kindergarten issues. While this may be an unpopular decision, I do believe it is the best long term solution. The redistrict will have to happen eventually and has been fought for years. This is going to be the best reason that people will support to do it if there is ever a shot of doing it.

You could cut 10 to 15 positions in central office and no one would notice. We have one of the most expensive central office's in the state. You should look up their job descriptions.

Where do the Mayfield 1st through 5th graders end up?

They will redistrict and put them in other schools.

My oldest son starts kindy in 2015 so I am very interested how this will turn out! Why can't they have all day kindy at all the schools and hire more teachers?

Because some schools, like White Hall, don't have room for more classrooms (they already have 3 K classrooms). In fact White Hall is out of room for outdoor trailer classrooms.

The state auditor needs to pull the books on madison county schools, like he has other districts, and see where the waste is.

The facts and not speculation are: the auditors both local, state and for federal monies have been here so many times they have worn a trench in the road. Why don't you silly people give this argument up and realize if there was one financial bone buried all these hungry dogs would have dug it up.

The truth is that most people who complain about schools have never spent any time at all inside the school or rather the classroom to actually know what goes on there. Mayfield Elementary is not a ghetto school. It is not located in the ghetto. For someone to suggest that it is, makes me wonder if that person knows anything at all about the geography of Madison County at all. The dilemma arose from the Madison County School Board's approval to have all day kindergarten next year as opposed to half day as it has been. This will cause the schools need to hire more teachers AND find more space to put these students. Most of the elementary schools are already overcrowded as it is. So, the question is, do the schools bring in trailers to use as classrooms? Many parents would complain about using these because they seem unsafe in the event of a weather emergency. Or, does the disctrict do as is being suggested by creating these "centers". Unfortunately, Mayfield is being suggested as the main center. One of the elementary schools had to be chosen. With the central location of the school, it seems like the most logical choice. I do not think that ANY of the teachers OR the students are the cause of this decision.

By the way...this decision has NOT been made final. The Board of Education meets this Thursday to vote. If you have an opinion on the matter, and want to make your voice heard, then you should show up at the meeting!

This is because White Hall accepts way too many out of district kids. If the board looked at this and sent these kids to the schools in their districts this would not be a problem/

Yes White Hall does in fact accept way too many that are out of district. know for a fact lady that lives in my brothers neighborhood his kids attend kit carson while her house just around the corner has 2 children that attend White Hall all because she works for the school board. There is no doubt that white hall is a very coveted school BUT if you dont live in the district then your kids shouldnt be attending school there regardless of who you work for.
