Madison county is a pretty darn nice place to live and Richmond in particular. I feel blessed in being about an hour or less to most anything anyone would need - especially healthcare.

When I retire I'll likely end up in either Louisville or the Dallas / Ft. Worth area but for now I feel blessed right where I am.

If you don't do drugs, aren't an alcoholic, and stay out of trouble, it's a great place. It's small enough to be comfortable and avoid the traffic and crime that larger cities like Lexington and Louisville have, but it's big enough to have a good cultural and entertainment scene of its own.

Also, it's central to just about everything. If you can't get it in Richmond, you can get it in Lexington. If you can't get it in Lexington, you can get it in Louisville or Cincinnati. If you can't get it in Cincinnati, then you didn't really need it in the first place.

Old Nick do you work in the medical field?

Well its a good place if you want your kids to be on drugs. Theres nothing for them to do. Wow they have Bounce House. Thats it. This town is for the drug dealers. If you need drugs look up Scotty an Minnie Lamb. But they sell an rat on people. They might give you a sleep aid an tell you its a zanaz. Or they will take your money an say there going to go get you something an not show back up. I dont do drugs but I know alot of people do an has told me about them, its funny in a way. You cant get them in trouble either because the law here is scared of them. This is a good town if you like liquior an drugs. The judges are for the drugies too hell most of them are on them to they just dont get reported if they get pulled over. So if you come to party welcome to Richmond.

Honestly... just going by the trash that gets posted on topix, I would never move to Kentucky or any of its neighboring states. :(

....for real?...but wouldn't that cause irreversible damage to the community's health?...maybe that's why they are all (not "all" but you know..) on drugs and screwy?

Hi, if anyone has a 'useful' comment to make about Richmond please do so. My husband and I are definitely considering a move to Kentucky and we are wondering what would be a nice place to live,(with a lower population than Lexington, but more than 5,000)that has decent jobs or near a larger city like Lexington, such as Richmond, so we can commute. If anyone currently living in Richmond, other than the disgruntled ones who have been there their whole life and are dying to get out, has any good input on the town (vibe, characteristics, scenery, personality and politeness of the town folk, etc.), housing availability and prices, population (demographics within the population ie:Different races, etc.), or any other helpful information they would be willing to tell me about, I would greatly appreciate it. I am a born and bred Southern girl living in Colorado and I'm ready to get out and find a slower paced lifestyle but still need to drive to work every day. I would love to live in the 'sticks' but unfortunately there's no opportunity in the sticks unless you are already well off. We are an Air Force veteran family trying to get closer to our roots (normalcy), and think Kentucky would be a nice place to live without having to completely 'go back home.'
If anyone has anything they would like to share about Richmond with a family who are seriously considering a move to Kentucky, we would be very much thankful for your two cents.

I like Richmond. It's where I work, and I find it has everything I need in terms of shopping, services, and other resources, but even if it didn't, I'd live here because it's where I work, and I don't want to waste money on commuting.

Best bet, come see for yourself. Get a room, stay for a bit, take a look around. Have a realtor show you some places to live. Check out the job scene, the schools, drive the roads, visit the businesses you would frequent. Check out the recreational options.

People who give such strong negative opinions as I have read here are telling you more about themselves, their background and their biased perspectives, than they're actually revealing about Richmond itself. It speaks to the sort of things they focus on, the kind of life they live, whether they themselves are negative or positive people in general. They'd likely find the worst of any community they occupied and complain about it endlessly, no matter where they lived.

Lucky for you, very few decent people get on Topix, so this is not an accurate reflection of all of the people here. Not even a majority. Likely, just a single digit percentage, if that.

Again, come see for yourself, if you haven't already. Your opinion, informed from first-hand experience, is what matters most.

Best of luck.

Richmond VA is a terrible place and when its not terrible its boring. People arent that friendly and businesses rip you off if you are not from there. They constantly rip off visitors and soldiers. They have no respect. When I was in the active army and visited the town they overcharged me and taxis ripped me off. I hope the city burns down one day, its that bad. They also have the worst bars and clubs.
