I am looking for a used vehicle and I will have to go through a buy here pay here car lot. Can someone recommend a few good ones in Richmond? I don't have a lot to put down on a car at the moment, maybe $1000 or so.

Thanks

I have bought cars off of every buy here pay here lot in richmond went through 3 cars in one year. east main, big hill and webbs they will all do you wrong as long as they get a dollar to put in there pocket they don't care if you break down with your family in it, there is no refund or trade in, you have to put a new down payment on another car . i think is very wrong, i have put 3500 dollars in cars and don't have one now because they didn't make it right with me. i lost the money and cars.

Wow ! I had completely forgotten about this thread. I did find a small pickup truck back in August from a private dealer for only $500. It runs like a top, was nothing wrong with it but the brakes. Thanks for all of the replies to this thread. I am sure that you are helping some other individual by posting them.
Thanks

I know hat it's like to have crap credit and drive used cars. And I also know that only rarely do you get a straight deal from one of these local lemon lots! Many cater primarily to college kids that don't know better and just want some wheels to head to Lex and bar hop in.

I've found the last 3 vehicles I've owned using craigslist. For the uninitiated, craiglist is just a site that hosts free classifieds for people buying or selling damn near anything. You can search by location, then modify your search by whether or not there are pics, and by minimum and maximum price.

I started with a car from Indiana that I paid less than half of book value for... around $2000. Some jerk wrecked into me, and his insurance paid out double what I put into it. Took that money, found another car in Georgetown on craigslist, drive it for 3 years. Just traded up for yet another ride (one I've kinda always wanted)! Just people like you and me, selling cars out of their driveways and yards.

Of course, always go check em out before you buy, and if possible, get the VIN and run a CarFax first - totally worth it.(That first one I got was a lemon, but luckily that fella totaled it for me and basically bought me my next one)!

Oh, and in the search results on craiglist, you'll find dealer ads... but you can filter them out by selecting "cars+tricks - by owner" instead. Here's a link with that filter applied:

I can tell you one other place to stay away from. Key Auto in Lexington. They put some kind of thing on the engine and if you are late, they flip the switch, and the car won't start and they won't turn it on until they are paid - and that means the daily late fees, etc. bunch of A%%hole crooks!!!!

sweetness i am in need of a good used car. At least now I know where not to go to. As for the car switch. I had a car like that, makes you make your payments. I think its a smart Idea. People in the car business need their money also. My car gave me 2 extra days to get into the place. YOu know alot of people jet off with cars then move and they person that sold them the car is out money. So this prevents them from having a vehicle if this happens. I am all for it.

well sweety for the 1000 dollar down payment it would buy any car from a buy here pay here lot, 99.9% of those cars comes from insurance companys that are totalled out or car auctions, for the 1000 dollar down you can get 2 or 3 cars easily from the same place they get them, so the car lot is not out one cent, they are actually to the good buy about 500 after they recieve the downpayment, trust me boo boo i took there picinic basket i know
