My family will be moving to Richmond in July. I will be working downtown. We have two children, ages 5 and 3. I need to be close to downtown but also in a good school district. We are looking for a home around $160,000 to $170,000. We have found several options but don't know if they are close enough. We want a newer home. What would you guy recommend? I looked out by Richmond Center but those homes are in the middle of a field.

There are nice ones off Lancaster road. You may not want to be too close to downtown. As many bad neighborhoods are there. When looking at a map, stay away from Turpin Drive, Race St. Or too close to Kalarney. As not too much good comes from those areas. There is also a new development off 52, towards Waco being built. Hope that helps guide you some. Good luck in your search.

I'd try some of the other ones near Richmond Centre- those houses are really in a great location. Get on google maps and look in that area, or just down Tate's Creek road, there are some nice ones there. Several subdivisions to choose from and minutes from downtown and shopping.

The three best schools are White Hall, Glen Marshall, and Kit Carson. I'd suggest getting in one of those areas. The White Hall district expands all the way to the Fayette county line and there are some great subdivisions out in those areas, Amster Woods, Traditions, Seven oaks, River Circle, but that would give you a commute. You might luck out on a recently redone home or a house on West main- best streets to live on there are Sunset, Burnam, Mildred, they are like a time capsule from years ago, recently repaved and rebuilt sidewalks, about 5 houses up for sale- biking distance to downtown and the schools, minutes from shopping and two parks. It reminds me of a neighborhood from the 50's. mostly older people and families. My cousins live there and love it. If you get too far back on the streets behind it though off west main there are rough areas as well. Some nice homes off of Barnes mill- both the in-town and out of town sections.

In your price range and you wanting a newer home try Fieldstone off highway 25. Nice new subdivision. White Hall School district and school is only one minute from subdivision. Downtown in five minutes.
