Just wanted some input on... Are their any legitimate reasons why I cannot get visitation with my child? We are not married but it has been established that I am the child's father and have always been in her life.

Ya know, I think ALOT men got it wrong when it comes to child support and visitation. SOME men get screwed over. I dont get it. I would give ANYTHING for my kids dad to be in their lives but all he does is pay his support and there is more to it then that..My ex, paid his support and had every other weekend visits and his ex would refuse to send her daughter, why? because her mom didnt like me cause i was 14 yr younger then him, when she is just 2 yrs older then me, says her 10 yr old daughter dont need to be round me. There is such thing called contempt of court in that situation, I wish some women would let go of things and let dads be dads. If their kid is safe with their father let them go. I hope u get things straighten out..If u wanna talk, im here. good luck

You can get visitation with your child if you want to take her to court. What will end up happening is that she will turn your child against you. Maybe you should just wait until your child is old enough to decide to be a part of your life. What reasons does she have to want you out of your child's life? Are you a past or present drug abuser? Do you have a criminal record?

if a man loves his kids u shouldnt quit the visitation, my kids dad beat me on a regular basis and cheated with my best friend.still, they granted him visitation and he just wont call or come round. I dont agree on the just wait till the kid is old enuff, that gives a mom time to say, well he dont come round or see u that must mean he dont want u. ur kid will only resent u if u do it...i was a divorced parents kid, my mom tried to turn me against my dad and he still came and got me on weekends and i knew he loved me. My daughter is 8, i dont refuse her to pick up a phone and call her dad if she wants, she sees its her dad and not me, she resents him for not commin around not me.

Try to work something out in regards to visiting your child with the mother. If that doesn't work, take her to court and get your visitation. Unless she can prove that you are a danger to the child, there is no judge in the world that won't give you visitation.

Look there is no reson that u cant get visitation of ur kid as long as u have a place for overnight visits and u r not a drug abuser acholic or physicaly abusive u should be good u will have to take her to court they will order a schulde for u to visit with ur child if she doesnt go by the schudle u take her back to court for contempt and after so many times of her not bringin the child and u going back to court the judge will put her in jail for contempt of court its not a easy road but hang in there keep tryin it pays in the end my husband and I went through it for 5 years with his baby moma then we just got full cousdy of my step son

Thank you all for the advice. I am actually a recovered drug addict and have made a few mistakes when it comes to the law but when it comes to my daughter she has never ever been involved in any of this, you see she is only a little over a year old and I have been in her life from day one. The mother is very spiteful, it is like "if you won't have me you can't see your child"and I no longer care to be with this woman. Again my daughter has never been in any danger. I only want visitation not custody. Court is in the process, just wondered if any one knew will my past have anything to do with the present and visits.

Your past will have a lot to do with visitation. Id be ready for a drug test. I am also sure your criminal record will be brought up if she doesn't want you to be a part of your daughters life. Good Luck, you will need it.

They don't just say take a drug test, & it takes alot for them to deny visitation, they'll even say being current on support has nothing to do with visitation, you can have legal aid represent you, or if you have a current order for support, they'll set you up with Mike Asher to mediate an agreement on visitation.

Volunteer for a drug test. You can always request supervised visitation either with a family member that your X approves or with a court appointed person. Once the supervised visitation has gone well, then the judge will usually implement a regular visitation schedule.

Does that also mean her past drug and criminal history will be brought up? As long as you are not on drugs or in a rehab and have a place (approved by the court} you will have no problem getting visitation.Remember Fathers do have rights. They gave them the right to pay child support didn't they? Will this woman have her child taken if her past or current drug or criminal history be brought up? I think not. From where I see it you will have no problem getting visitation. Good luck to you and your daughter. Oh and have you ever had any children taken from your custody or has she? That will definitely be a factor.

your past shouldnt matter, if u were on drugs im guessing she was as well..if u r clean and paying support then u should see ur child..and alot of women can ask for supervised visits due to ur past and most time they grant that. go with it and when judge sees u r seeing ur child u will get reg. visits

I agree with "mom of two" go along with supervised if you have to it won't last long and I am sure if you have a suitable place for her to visit you no judge should have a reason not to give you visitation.I am sure her past is not that of a nun .
