Ok so heres the situation...a few years back i attended bctc and withdrew after 2 semesters, stupid i know but thats not the point. Ive decided to follow my lifelong dream of opening up a salon of my own. Ive begun a deferment program that will allow me to be re-eligible for financial aide in 6 months. The cosmetology school here in richmond doesnt provide financial aide. I do not have reliable enough transportation to drive back n forth from richmond to lexington every day to go back to bctc even though they have a great cosmetology and salon management program. Does anybody have any good suggestion as to what i could do?

Go to your local WorkForce connection office and see if they can help you out. There is a grant called the Work Investment Act or "WIA" basically you take a few (free) classes at the WorkForce Connection center and they have you fill out an application to determine if you are eligible to receive the grant. The grant will help pay for the program you want to take at the college or trade school that are participants with WorkForce (which is nearly all of them)When and if you approved, if the drive is too long or don't have the money for the gas you let them know and they can also give you gas cards in the amount you have to travel or pay a bus card for you or arrange a car pool of some sort (if you got kiddos they also can arrange to get you free childcare as long as you are in school and or if you have an interview)
You have to jump through a few hoops but its well worth it. Heres the link http://workforce.ky.gov/
Hoped I helped some.

Do you swallow? I know that sounds blunt, but in the local banking industry, that is a very important issue for female business women.

It could very well be the difference between success and failure.

Think about the following. Why would you go into a career that offers no insurance, no retirement, no sick days, no dental plan and you work only at the pleasure of people you have attempted to please. It is a life time of hard work and making very little until you have built up a clientele. That takes a long time. The hairdressers I know that are successful have worked like dogs, stood on their feet 12-14 hours a day and it took years to make it. The others average making a modest income. For heavens sake don't waste your time on this, go into something that is a sure thing to provide work on a regular basis for you and your family.

I couldn't agree more. There are so many salons in this town now and it would take years to establish yourself and a new business, if you even get to that point. Small businesses are also suffering due to taxes and it's not going to get any better.

Being a Capricorn I thought just like you ladies/gents while choosing my career path. I was accepted into many colleges when I graduated high school. My favorite was The Arts Institute in Chicago. I dreamed of being a fashion designer after years of sketching and dreaming of my success. I wanted to turn my talents and passion into a career. But being a logical person, I decided to head to business school instead. I have spent the last ten years of my life managing a property management business, stressed out, overworked and underpaid! I oftentimes ponder what if I had followed my dreams and not the immediate paycheck. The point is, every career takes hard work and diligence. You have to climb the ladder where ever you go. Why not be on the climb doing something you love? The richest people will tell you that you must take risks to gain the best in life. Part of taking risks means that you aim for what is in your heart and have faith in your own abilities. Don't listen to the people trying to tell you otherwise! You can do anything you set your mind to!

Thanks! Thats how i feel, I'm also a capricorn but on the cusp of sag so i stay confused lol. And i don't want to be a hair dresser per say. Im very talented at nailart and wouldn't mind doing that or just managing a salon until my dreams come true. I know theres lots of salons here that really don't make it but I'm confident in my ability to put all of em out of business!

You may have a dream but in the end you have to pay the bills. You may be the most excited person alive on year one of your career but believe me for most people by year twenty you just want to make a decent living.
