Downtown Richmond needs the bars back in the downtown area. Although I am way to old to patronize any bar that would open, it would be nice to have them back downtown.

Number 1, the religious crowd is thrilled they are gone. I am not. I had much rather the college kids be able to walk to downtown Richmond bars and take a cab back to their dorm room vs driving back and forth on the interstate to Lex for a night out.

Number 2, I had rather Richmond collect the tax money rather than Lex

Nah. Go on back to bed, old man. There are enough bars downtown already. Or you could ask Worley and company to put bars back in from the Family Court Building to Irvine Street. I'm sure that would go over like a turd in a pool.

The first street strip of bars will never be again. That's not what I had in mind. Currently, along main street there is plenty of unoccupied space. Fill the empty space with tax revenue making businesses. Lexington is currently receiving OUR tax dollars.

Most importantly, keep our college kids in town. If they want to party, they will party. Only with the bars in Richmond they will not be traveling on the interstate to do it.

Also, a you may think my idea is like a "turd in a pool", however, I beg to differ. We have enough bars in Richmond you say. How long have you lived in Richmond/Madison County? 25 years ago one could cruise around Richmond and see hundreds of college kids all over the streets of Richmond on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Do you think college kids no longer party? The answer is that you are delusional if you think they do not. They are just going elsewhere to do it.

Enough bars in Richmond, really? Madison Gardens is hardly a bar, The pub style establishment that occupies the space where O'Rileys used to be is nice, but not the college type bar of yesteryear. RT's draws an older age of customer than college crowd. That leaves the Whiskey Barrel (formally the Maverick). I cannot speak for the Whiskey Barrel, I do not know what age range they are drawing.

Yes, but then they have all the issues that go with drunks. We don't need it, or want it, around here. Plus theres the added benifit that they might get drunk and crash when drivinbg back and kill themselves. That way they won't even be here, in Richmond, at all.

The best thing for this city would be to limit the number of kids at EKU to whatever they can sustain on the campus, and disallow them to leave the campus while attending. At least half of the college just needs to be torn down and replaced with farm land. Same for the Richmond Centre, tear it down and return it to farm land.

Finally, people with stupid ideas, like making a devil outlet in downtown Richmond just needs to be disallowed to live in this area as well.

A quick spin of the clock is all Richmond needs. Move us back at least 40 years in time and we would be just fine.
Really huh

I will pray for you. Your following statement is terrible: "Plus theres the added benifit that they might get drunk and crash when drivinbg back and kill themselves" This is the number one reason I DO NOT want the college kids driving from Lexington to Richmond.
Also, how would you feel if an innocent person was killed by a drunk driver? What if this innocent person was your son or daughter? I had rather have the "drunk" walking from the bar to the dorm vs driving any day!

We agree that students should be confined to campus! We are well equipped to handle restricted populations but have lost quite a few contracts with jails and prisons lately. Of course, absolutely no contraband food or beverages can be allowed to enter campus from the outside world. We like the idea of a Company Town!

We think students should have anything they want as long as they get it from us.

If Richmond were to have more bars they would be off campus genius. EKU would not be in the business of bars.

I too believe I had rather have the college kids walking vs driving home from the bars. It may save someone in your own families lie.

What seems like a few short years ago, this place had a variety of night spots to choose from, several with dancing and DJs, others with good live bands; there were mellow spots, wild ones, and all within a few blocks' walk.

By comparison, what remains isn't even close. "Plenty?" You must be a pup or a shut-in.

blue moon. Dancing and a band never see the college crowd in there. Like i said clean it up and perhaps? Saratoga? Whiskey barrel. Irish pub. Strip club. On and on jungle tinas etc etc. now i will agree we do need a straight up techno/ dance night club with ladies in skirts dancing rythmically

You are a dummy. Do you know how much money EKU generates for Madison County by employing our citizens andgenerating businesses for the businesses in Madison County? Do you know how many people are employed by EKU? You most likely do not even have a high school diploma. EKU is a blessing to this county.

Also, "go dry", NEWS FLASH prohibition DID NOT work. It only made people like Al Capone rich and those like him. You most likely would not know this since I doubt you have a formal education to have learned of such matters.

I grew up in Richmond and attended EKU. I don't miss anything about the college kids lining up to get in the bars and taking over. I am glad that Richmond has become less of a party town. I am not a church person and I drink myself. I still go out sometimes but it is different now and for the better. We don't need any more bars.

on the other hand less drunk youngsters equals less drama in some of the nieghborhood on the selfish side my money comes from my govnmt job and is more than an eku job so if it goes dry here and they quit coming then hopefully my money gi even further?

The state ABC would just come in and hammer them with fines. They have already hit several this year for underage drinking.

Don't worry about it. As long as the smoking remains, no bar or restaurant will succeed besides those that choose to ignore it. Problem with that is, with all that lost revenue, we will continue to have CRAZY water bills, outrageous licensing fees and higher property taxes. I really don't see Richmond recovering financially until the ban is lifted and owners are allowed to choose for themselves wether to allow smoking or not. Don't believe it? Everytime my wife and I go to Renfro Valley to eat (no smoking ban) the parkingot is full of Mad. Co. License plates. Lot of money lost to Rockcastle Co. Everyday. Come on down and see for yourselves. We'll have a meal and smoke together.

I cannot name you one person I know who drives from Richmond to Rockcastle Co, of all places, to go get a drink at a bar. You are delusional.

And you're part of the "stuck in the 60's" generation if you still think that smoking in public should be OK. I have as much right as you to go to a restaurant and eat and to do so without having to smell or breathe in that crap that you got yourself addicted to back when you were 16 and it was considered "cool." Moreover, I don't want to go home smelling like it.

Perhaps I wear a gas mask to the restaurant you are sitting at and spray a can of novelty "fart-spray laced with various carcinogens" at you while you eat. Doubt you'd still be "cool and collected" if that was happening.
