I need a good JOB!

I've ruined my life. I had a good job in the 90's, taking care of my babies (who are now grown), brand new 3 bedroom habitat home, brand new car, and not a bad looking woman. I couldn't keep a man and still known today by some awful names. I got hooked on meth, THEN I got hooked on crack, THEN I started using IV's. I've been to prison 4 times on various charges. Theft, Burglary, Trafficking, Possession, Forgery, Pre-cursors for manufacturing Meth. I was a crazy person. I've lost everything I've owned, several times, including my children. I just couldn't do it anymore. I had had enough pain. I had enough of not knowing my children. I had enough of being that terrible person! I had enough of my dad not wanting anything to do with me. Yes, I got back my children, I'm even friends to the one I gave up for adoption, I've been able to work on forgiving myself for giving her up, my father is in my life, as well as my step mom, who was never one of my favorite people in the past. I have a houseful of furniture and some of it's new. I have a little car that's almost paid off. All because I've been clean for 5 years. I live responsibly today. I can't imagine living that life again. I've held down a job this while time. I've done so well, my PO let me off active parole. I can't find a good job. I'm a hard worker, I'm smart, I catch on real easy. I'm honest! I've worked a cash register at a gas station for the last 2 years. I can give you excellent references. I just need a decent job!

From what I'm told, it is quite difficult to find a job with a record. Background checks *used* to be used to screen potential security/safety risks at sensitive jobs, but with so many people out of work and looking for a job, many everyday employers now employ inexpensive online background checks to whittle down the large number of applicants they must interview to a more manageable number. This has the unfortunate side effect of knocking people with a checkered past out of the running for all but mom-and-pop-type work.

Normally, I suggest to anyone that is up against a wall and desperately needs employment to consider military service, but a bad record can make it impossible for a person to get or keep a security clearance, and thus prevent them from being considered. It can't hurt to try, however. A term of service in the Armed Forces has the effect of negating previous transgressions in the eyes of many potential employers, and offers a veteran's preference for consideration to any job you might apply for afterwards (provided you don't stay in and make it a career).

Aside from that, I can only suggest that you stop by the local Employment Services office, get an online resume or three put together - one for each type of job you want and are qualified for - and submit them for anything that comes up for which you are qualified. Eventually, you're bound to get a hit somewhere. Don't give up!

Best of luck.

Congrats on getting your life back. You worked hard and turned your life around.

You can change your perspective. There are people out there without records that can't even find a job at a gas station. Be glad to have a job period. It may not be your dream job, but it's a job and some people can't even find that.

There are many who just can't find a job, the long term unemployed and they may have a clean record and good references and be a hard worker, but there are more unemployed people than there are jobs. And the longer they go without a job, the harder it is to get hired because of a longer gap in their employment history. I know some people who would love your job.

Did you post earlier about your loser husband? Quit looking for handouts, get a job, a better one-a lot of factories are hiring with better pay than what a gas station cashier earns and quit making the ones who have jobs keep your sorry azz up with government assistance! I've seen you walking around with your cell phone pasted to your ear bitching about how you've been mistreated, and telling your little girl that you'll be home soon to take care of her if she can get her dad to leave! Actually heard this conversation while I was leaving one of our stores in the Richmond Centre area(Meyer) while you were wearing what looked like PJ's. You actually didn't look that redneck like some I've seen. Get your life in order and leave what I presume is an abusive relationship. But again, you may be the one who is stupid. I'm glad that I didn't have to grow up in what an environment that you grew up in according to your phone conversation. Get help. There are programs that will help you, IF you're willing to get help.

B and H Tool Works on Lancaster road, ask for Sammy Hammonds, he used to do a "second chance" program, it's factory work but it's family owned and operated and the pay is a lot better than running a register. Good luck!
