From the e-mail that went out Monday, no real information will be given until after Spring Break. Holding back such vital information is really unacceptable. But, it's not exactly like most employees will say anything about it to anyone who needs to hear it because of fear that they will be "volunteering" to put their name on the list.

Sounds like Dr Whitlock doesn't want to be the bad guy, hope he doesn't force the new President to start thier term by announcing cuts. One would think he'll do the tough work on the way out.

My understanding is that the task force has come to a firm decision or direction as of yet. Also, that their "recommendations" are still to be approved by the Board, but I'm not sure about that one.

Sad to see EKU becoming a shell of what it once was.Proof positive that lowering academic standards for years will catch up with u.

They don't draw retirement FROM EKU. They draw it from the state system that they paid into.

How about cutting the employees not earning their keep whomever they are. If they're, "double dipping" they might be a better deal as they make be working for less than you could replace them for if you consider their experience etc....

Hopefully they will start with that idiot Skip Daughtery.

Yes, that would be a first step. He is a double dipper on the state retirement plan.

remember that Doug Whitlock was "retired" when he was recruited back as president? guess he's a double dipper too..... it should be a state law for ALL school systems from K-Univ. level that once retired, always retired!!!

Retirement is a personal financial status of a financial fund. It has nothing to do with a person's value as a worker or what they contribute to an organization.

With the largest portion of our population (baby Boomers)retired, retiring and close to it, followed by a smaller population in the work force you'll have a few choices.

1. second or third career retired and rehired workers
2. more foreign workers to fill positions
3. export those jobs to countries with the needed work force

The young upcoming work force is smaller and may not possess the experience yet to fill the gaps

Not only do they go back into the system, they are revested after five years. Guess which two are making more now than when they retired the first time? Guess who is revested as of this year?

What difference does it make? If a person is doing their job.... Their personal financial status is their private business. I suspect most of you don't think your personal finances are anybody's business.

Neither were qualified for the jobs that were handed to them. They're just part of the good 'ol boys club and know the right people. If someone else had been hired as president, EKU wouldn't be in the place it is now.

"Times" that was where I was headed with this. A lot of the problems places like EKU are in are due to economics issues, funding cuts etc.... But, it is always easier to blame someone who you think has more than you and that is unfair....

Seems like there just isn't a whole lot of coverage from the media, or outrage from the community about pending cuts at EKU. The effects of layoffs will impact all. $24million in cuts divided by average salary of $50k is more than a handful of people fixin to get laid off.

I am trying not to panic just yet. I know they will likely encourage early retirement and that sort of thing before lay offs actually come down the line. I just think the media made it sound worse than it actually is.

There will be layoffs and people are basically ignoring all of this, nothing can be done anyway. By the way, it won't be over when this prez leaves. The next one will have another round, just watch.
