Actually playing High School organized sports should be for any kid that is atempting to play. This activity was originally designed to build character and teach the child how to function in a team setting. It is absolutely not that anymore! It has totally become extremely competitive not for the kids as much as it is for the parents and the coaches. I agree that if you have a talent then use it but I think the other kids should be given an equal chance. Building resentment between the players doesn't make a successful team and it does not make the sporting event fun. Which is actually one of the main purposes!!

all kids that want to put forth the effort and time to train and work hard do play. All kids get a chance to play. By the time that you reach high school level sports more is at stake than just every kid getting to play. By the time they get to high school sports the ones with real athletic ability stand out and their future as an athlete is at stake. Colleges are looking at them for scholarships that will allow kids that otherwise couldn't afford to go to college to go. There is a time when people have to realize that you have to work for what you have. Just because you go to school doesn't mean your entitled to be a starter. That is a position you have to earn.

Blah blah blah whatever!! It's all about the clique, there have been many kids with talent that were pushed aside for certain others. I absolutely love football and have watched quite a few kids hearts be crushed because they knew they were better. They stuck it out too, didn't quit, stood on the sidelines devoted to the team. So that's Richlands for ya! Sorry to say it won't change, people will deny it and coaches will make excuses.

Richlands football is supposed to be a team, not made up of the selected few. These boys go out everyday and practice hard only to stand on the sideline on Friday nights. Not fair, never been fair, and never will be fair. Coaches are good for making excuses and making promises they don't keep. Not everyone cares about a starting position; some just want playing time.

Obviously you haven't paid much attention to the team on the field. Whenever Coach Mance has a win sealed he takes the starters out and lets the others in to play. Stop crying like a bunch of girls...If your kids cry like you no wonder they don't get to play.

Yes not every one gets to play but if we are wining the 2nd string goes out there and just to let you know the only reasoned Richlands is so good is because we have a good coaching staff and we are a family not many teams can say that ik some kids that had there moms and dads call the jv coaches that way they could stand on the side lines on Friday night then they bitch and complain that they don't get to play on Friday and on Monday / Tuesday it's bc they had there parents call the coaches you have to go out every day and work hard if u don't then u well not get to play bc you might not be as good as u think or your parents !

Let me guess, you are either a player or a parent of a player that actually gets to play?! So your solution to letting every kid have a chance at a public school sport is to move them to a different school? That makes a lot of sense! Just up and move your kid to a different district because the coaches and obsessed parents act like that their kids are playing in the NFL! That proves right there that the system is quite flawed. Your kid is playing a small town high school sport. NOT THE SUPER BOWL! Bwahahahahaha

I guess so huh! Bwahahahaha You show how everything is twisted. How about you focus on your kids education instead of the Friday night lights. But, that's not as important as seeing a touchdown right! You so crazy... HAHAHA

First of all, I'm not your "hunni" sugar cakes! Second of all, we live in Richlands Virginia. Do you really think if you go any distance from here our High School football team will be known? Give me a break pumpkin! Not hardly! And it's for certain we do have the best! The best set of parents who have there priorities twisted, and people who think that public school football defines your life. Good job Honey! Continue showing our children how to feel about sports and teamwork! What a joke! LOL

First of all I dont have a kid on the team, and have no insight to the inner workings of how Coach Mance or any other coach works. I do see however a sense of entitlement in some posts. All of these kids do have an equal chance, they probably all have equal opportunity to the weight room, equal practice times. Football does teach a good lesson, if someone else is better at something than you they probably get promoted (not true all the time, but a general rule). If you arent the best, practice hard to be the best. I also realize its high school, but thats about the right time to start learning life isnt about getting what you want just because you think you deserve it, and not because you earned it.

I do agree and that is my point! Football or any sport is supposed to be a learning experience for the KIDS! Not for an obsessed parent to display their kid and bad behavior. How did we as adults decide that we should act like kindergarden children fighting over a toy? Some of these parent act like their child is the only important one on the field. Ever heard the saying there is no "I" in team. Isn't that something that they are supposed to be learning in a team sport. Teamwork... Sportsmanship.... Character Building... DO any of these things sound like what some of these parents are committing on? Sounds a little bit like snobbiness and entitlement. Once again it's just a sport for a small town public school. How about you push your kids to earn scholarships that are academic based instead of carrying a ball up and down a field? But, education is not put first right?! It's secondary to sitting in a stand!
