Lets start a thread about CVMC. Why is it such a bad hospital? Well, there is 1 simple answer that can explain anything that is wrong with that hospital. It is a "for profit" hospital. See, most hospitals operate under a not for profit or non profit status (Holston Valley, Indian Path, Bristol Regional, etc). CVMC is a business, and they conduct themselves that way. I had a family member in the hospital and got a bit hungry. So, I went to the cafeteria. I missed the entrance by a few feet and noticed a sign hanging above their time clock. The sign had a statement on it saying that any decision and employee makes should have the shareholders in mind. Holy shit...really? It is a HOSPITAL! The number 1 thing that should be on every employee's mind in that facility is PATIENTS! Anytime you check out of the ER or have a procedure, they will hustle you and shake you down for a "deposit". I have NEVER seen a hospital that would shake down an elderly person living on disability for 50 bucks. So, what are everyone else's thoughts?

The 50 bucks is called a deductible an they are not refused service if they can't pay. Sounds like your just a Sh*t stirrer.

No it is not called a deductible. It is called a deposit. They hassle you until you are ready to scream. And if it is not an emergency procedure, they WILL refuse service. There is a sign that clearly says that they are obliged to provide 'stabilizing emergency care'. I am not a shit stirrer, I am pointing out the fact that there is a medical facility that services our area that has horrible standards and practices.

There are so many people who think that "not for profit" hospitals are naturally better. You know the only basic difference in "for profit" and "not for profit?" The "for profit" facilities pay taxes, while the "not for profit" facilities DON'T. Both are MAKING MONEY. CVMC's revenue comes from close to 80% Medicaid. They receive 5 cents on every dollar for their services to Medicaid patients. Add it up and you'll see they come out in the red. Nothing is free. Those of us who work and have insurance are taking up the slack. Don't blame the hospitals; blame Obamacare and our government policies.

Absolutely ludicrous statement. You don't blame a president for shitty healthcare. And there is more than 'one basic difference' between CVMC and all the actual hospitals in our neighboring communities....the most obvious of which is that the levels of professionalism and service contrast starkly. CVMC is pathetic, and I think it is because it is ran like a business instead of a hospital.

I went in to pay my bill and the main place to go was closed. Maybe for lunch, idont know becuase it was past one. It directed us to go to the er to pay our bill. So we had to go where ill people gather to pay our bill. So dumb.

Go somewhere else then. I-81 is ready when you are. Facts are facts, however. Nice how you only chose one sentence of my post to reply to. As for my "ludicrous" statement... Anyone that can't see the flaws in our government welfare system is either misinformed or ignorant. Or on Medicaid...

funny how people with no clue to how things work or how much cvmc gives to the community want to comment. healthcare is not free and when you come for it you should expect to pay. btw all the other healthcare facilities in our area expect the same payment. check you facts before you run off your mouth

Gee people, grow up. I do blame obama care! For every medicare patient, the Dr gets 28 dollars. For every medicaid patient they get way less. this is for office calls. And when there is a patient in the er that has NO insurance, do you really think they pay for treatment? Very, Very few will ever. The only time anyone has ever been denied treatment there is if they come in hell raising and threatening everyone. Then the cops are called.(I Dont blame them). I happen to think their rates are low compared to other hospitals.
So do you expect top care for that amount? Check your facts. The Dr has to get paid, the nurses have to get paid, they have to buy all the medication they give to patients, electricity and water so your uninsured ass can be warm, drugged, operated on, given a shower and then rehabilitated so you can go back to a normal life. And yet, they treat you just like an insured patient. Who do you think pays for that when non insured, medicare and medicaid patients dont or cant pay for their care??? Insured patients and the.... yes, you got it....the "FOR PROFIT HOSPITAL".
And no, I do not work for, nor am I affiliated in any way shape or form to the hospital. I just know that without this hospital, 85% of the people in this area would never get any kind of care.
You want FREE care????? Leave the country and enjoy what they call "Freedom".
