yeah BUT Rons killing sales in so many ways is well known. JCPs troubles are self inficted beginning at ron Js office.

I was just laid off from JCP salon as a part of a nation wide layoff. I'm truly saddened, after working there for over 13 years, that it has become the mess that it is. I have seen some wonderful things such as the 100 yr anniversary of a true landmark in American retail history. James Cash Penney built his company based on a foundation of simple values..treat the customers and employees fairly every day and to provide exceptional customer service. I am very proud to have been a part of something that was so true to its roots. I truly loved going to work everyday. I was very comfortable with the thought of working there until retirement. Sadly, I have watched it rapidly deteriorate under the ideals of a 'modern' touch. I have watched employee morale bottom out. It is no longer, in my opinion, Americas favorite store. That changed when it became JCP...I am not a disgruntled employee, life goes on, I'm simply saddened by the loss of a true American tradition in retail.

There will be a press release in the morning that JCP is closing over 300 more stores. My close family was told yesterday. Ron Johnson & the board of directors are at fault here. JCP is going back to their "core values" after he has ruined the company. Unfortunately, it is too late for those losing their jobs. Ron Johnson needs to be run out of the country!!!!

Well it looks like a lot more people are losing their jobs. Penney's is now closing around 300 stores including mine. Ron Johnson is really sticking it to JC Penney.
At which store did you work?

Thats true however penneys was still profitable even with those 22,000 workers till ron johnson mucked it up. too many forget penneys had record profits in 2010 hurt only by rising cotton prices in 2011.

Even with the layoffs JCP is bleeding money and Caribou coffee has backed out of running coffee shops in the stores. Look for more potential speciality shops to change their mind, no use in associating with JCP headed to bankruptcy and liquidation:(

RJ turned a great place to work into a place with low morale and disgruntled employees. Everyone is afraid of losing their jobs...one wrong move and you are out! They have us rated red, yellow and green for "who to get rid of first". There are TWO people in my store that are for RJ. Everyone else hates what he's doing. If the associates don't care, how can the company survive? And it's totally right about alienating the older folks from shopping there. The younger generation doesn't have they money to spend on all the new designer clothing, and the older generation doesn't like it. Believe me, I listen to their opinions every day, and it's not good. They still venture in, can't find what they want, bitch about it to the cashiers, sometimes getting really nasty and blaming us, and don't come back. It's the most poorly run operation I have ever worked for!

I too have been given notice my position is being eliminated. I have a couple of weeks to train 2 people to do my job, because no matter how you look at it, someone has to do the deposit. My week went something like this, "congratulations, here's your 5-year anniversary gift, your plaque for being january associate of the month, oh, and we're eliminating your position. Your last day is Apr. 5"

Feel bad for you:( another victim of ron the jerk:(

Ron is convinced customers will all love libbys and cash is obsolete, so are coupons, customer service, and workers in the stores..........

eventually ron will get fired, the trouble is penneys may cease to exist before that, or more likely at about the same time.

I wonder if ackman is planning on keeping ron around till liquidation.

Just look how well ron has done reinventing JCP, next he will want to reinvent liquidation:(

It's unfortunate that Ron wants to turn the department store into a "mini-mall" of specialty stores - customers are confused by this. We're also baffled at the lack of merchandise and the horrible quality. I no longer step foot in JCPenney. It's unfortunate that Ron and the Board of Dirctors think their smarter than their customers. I guess they are as they are bringing home 50+ Million dollar salaries and I'm not.
Macy's and Kohl's are my "go to" stores now.
