Richardson Needs a Mayor?

Dear Richardson Residents,

I have lived in Texas for the last six years, but am new to the city of Richardson, and recently was asked to sign a petition to put the possibility of having an elected mayor in Richardson appear on this November's ballot. I admittedly do not know much about the history of this discussion/debate, and was hoping I could get some locals to weigh in on the following:

1.) What is the current system of government in Richardson?(I thought we had a mayor - but perhaps they are not elected?

2.) Why do some feel the current system needs to change?

3.) What are the benefits/drawbacks to changing the current system?

Thanks for your help!
