To all my Facebook fuktarded friends. Narrows Va is not the target for a mass shooting just because the WORD Narrows is shown briefly on a map during a stupid batman movie. "But it has our bridge on it!" You say. Umm have you seen our bridge? Are you familiar with this town. That is NOT our bridge. "But the map says Narrows on it!" You say. Umm yeah it says Narrows, NOT Narrows Virginia. Are you aware there is a Narrows in Texas and California? There is a river in Delaware called The Narrows. There is a restaurant in New York call Narrows. Stupid rednecks, you just hope someone will shoot up this town so that hopefully someone you know is a victim and you can rake in the fame and money. Of course I will eat my words if I'm wrong.

Uhh, unless there was some mention of January 2nd somewhere, I don't see what the fearless leader (Superintendent Arbogast) of the Giles County Schools expects to accomplish by closing the schools tomorrow.

Either information is being with-held in terms of WHY close the schools on Jan 2 (quite possible) or the act of closing the schools is an act of pure knee jerk stupidity (also quite possible).

It doesnt make any sense to close the schools on Jan 2nd if you plan to re-open then on Jan 3rd, 4th, or whatever date is anticipated unless there is some relationship to the date at hand.

All this over that stupid batman movie? Havent seen it, don't care to see it, and now we have all kinds of attention drawn to Giles School district by publicly announcing some sort of tie to the stupid movie for all the various wackjobs out there. Thanks alot. Sounds to me that more then anything, what was accomplished was to plant the seed of a terrible idea in the mind of the crazies.

What will prevent some loony from now showing up on who the hell knows what day, any day going forward other then Jan 2nd.

Good Job Arbogast.

I agree nut cases, but this really has put Narrows in the spot light, let's hope some crazy batman fan doesn't get a stupid idea now, it did not need all of this attention.

I would much rather the police and school systems err on the side of caution. Wouldn't you??? I have 3 grandsons that attend the elementary school and I very much appreciate the authorities in adopting a "safety first" approach.
If this happens to be true (I pray it's not) I am hoping that once the plot is exposed the person(s) will NOT attempt anything. And if it's not true I don't believe we will be targeted by some crackpot. These crazies normally select their targets due to some personal knowledge of that area.
There is a meeting scheduled today at 8:30 am at NEMS with all teachers, bus drivers and staff to discuss this issue. I trust and believe in the Giles Co Sheriff Dept, Narrows Police Dept and VA State Police to handle this issue.

The school system put this spotlight on our kids. There was no threat. There should have been plans in place already.

Doesn't every school in Giles County have a armed Sheriff's Deputy as a Resource Officer already assigned to the school? Doesn't the school system already have an emergency plan in place for these officers? Maybe this could have been done a bit more quietly and avoided all the unwanted attention to our schools, oh and yes I have two children and many nieces and nephews in the schools here in Narrows.

mother, nobody said we shouldn't have been told, there are better ways the local media, if a story like this gets picked up by a major network or cable station it gets totally blown out of proportion.

maybe, just maybe they closed schools so all the administraion and teachers were on the same page as far as procedures in case something did happen as a REVIEW. thats a smart move. good job. they already have emergency plans in place. should be in the plans in the future to do this before school starts every year. and as far as making it a big deal, damned if you do and damned if you dont. everyone cried for it to be made public after the tech shootings. now we dont want it to be???? i'm confused. personally, I think this incident is some idiot that has nothing better to do but look for something to cause havoc and as a platform for gun control. i applaud the schools for taking the time to make sure they are as prepared as can be. I hate the media for making it a stage for some idiot to become famous.

With all of the hoopla over this has gotten me thinking.......if there was some sort of precaution taken so that NO ONE other than staff could access our kids while at school, wouldn't that offer more peace of mind.....For instance, in some of the bigger schools that I've been in, there is no access to student hallways/classrooms/common areas. What if, upon entering, EEMS, MMMS, NEMS, NHS, and GHS, you enter the foyer and have to be buzzed into the office area and from there have to be buzzed into the hallway(s) leading to the remainder of the school?? These doors can be made that they automatically open from the "student" access side, for safety reasons (evacuation, etc.). This way the personnel in the office are offered some modem of protection also, and NO ONE has access to our children without being granted access??? Not trying to cause panic, or jump the gun.....but instead of jacking up the cost every single day, indefinitely, why not put in permanent safety measures? Discussion??????

My fear is that sandyhook had the same precautions our schools are taking. They also locked the doors and buzzed people in. The guy shot out the glass doors and received access into the school. Our. Schools also have glass doors. So who's to say that a person can't shoot out our glass doors to. I have several children in narrows high and in Nems. And I have been worried sick since school started back.

Don't fear just the schools. To be honest are your children safe anywhere? There are dangers all around and in reality we all will never be 100% safe. I agree with the previous poster regarding access doors and being controlled by office staff. Continue the SRO program because it is a great investment. If you are a gun owner be responsible and keep them away from your kids. I know you probably saying here is another anti-gun person but I support the 2nd Amendment. Gun owners need to take responsibility and make sure kids stay away from those guns. Think about it, kids that commit those shootings are getting the guns from there own homes. But is that ever going to be enough. Hopefully we can live our lives normally just being a little more cautious and aware.

Safety first morons. There was no threat, and no relevance to Jan 2. Arbo-ass closing the schools accomplished nothing other then alot of attention we didnt need and planting ideas in the minds of crazies they didnt have before. It made the schools LESS safe, and didnt do anything about the other 200plus school day
s per year. No one seems to get there was no date mentioned on that website
