Everett's own Radio Station
JUST TAKING A SURVEY IF YOU ALL THINK A LOW POWERED RADIO STATION IN EVERETT WOULD WORK?
Contents would be-
Station will be for no-profit non commercial privately funded.
FM Radio call sign WEVR
*call in talk and request
*public service announcements
*local and surrounding news and weather
*local sports news
*music of the 50s 60s 70s and 80s
*Saturday night Oldies 50s and 60s only
Station would have a 3-5 mile radius of coverage.
Just taking a Poll to see if all would like to see this in Everett, their own Radio Station WEVR.
Please chime in with your thoughts!!
thanks Radio Man

sounds good to me

......block out my favorite FM freq. with backsplash like all the other overmodulated Haitians trying this now and effing the band I'll have the FCC on you like white on rice.
There 's no space in an urban environment in the upper FM freq. 88-92 to transmit with out stepping on all the public and college signals.
Low power FM is designed for Nebraska not the 10 pounds of feces jammed in a 5 pound bag this ghetto has turned into.

What are the steps you have to accomplish to get such a radio station? Sounds good if it can be accomplished without too much difficulty. Where does the money come from to run the station and how much?
#5 Aug 29, 2012
Radio is a dead field. Radio stations like WBCN/WFNX couldn't even hold up any longer. So basically the station would need to either be Public Funded like NPR or both Public/Private. Basically just a waste of taxpayer's money. On top of its nearly impossible to get a frequency below 100.
Just start an internet podcast and call it a day...

(If you) get a life
There are no Public or College signals here in Everett to interfere with Already checked.
The steps are you have to file for a License with the Fcc and if I can get such License it will be funded by me privately no paid adds or commercials.

You are way off track and narrowed minded. Can you read the info posted. It will be privately funded cost you nothing and guess what your radio will have an off button. If not than that means you have no radio so why complain about something good for a change and also free.
I think a radio station right here in Everett would be great for the community and for people to listen to an area of music that they grew up with not the music of today!!
If I did get the license and knew I had 2 listeners I would be happy but I'm sure I would have more once the word got out of Everett having its own radio station. No adds, no commercials just talk radio and music and Free public announcements. Very simple.
You already have made this topic complicated with you non researched post about the LPFMR. Gotta read to get educated.

uh oh, someone is a little touchy about my response.
You do realize it's 2012 and the amount of mass media outlets you will be competing against right? Do you have any experience working in Radio and how it operates? If not, you're better off starting an internet radio station with little overhead cost.
Though, if you're happy with burning money. I wish you the best of luck with your venture into Broadcast Radio...

Post up your frequency if you get all the paperwork set,
I'd love to tune in.

I have been in the communication field for over 35 yrs
A licensed Ham Operator for 20 years
Electronics field for 35 yrs with the government.
You all think there would be competion well I don't care about the big stations just the coverage of Everett and some surrounding cities if I wanted to go big then a high power station would be needed.
#11 Aug 29, 2012
We could have our own Happy Hard Harry!!
#12 Aug 29, 2012
Will the new radio station eliminate the need for the 911 reverse robo calls for public service announcements and city events? What would the mayor do then?
#13 Aug 29, 2012
The station would at its initial start up not support the 911 calls.
I would be more than happy to make any public announcement that would pertain to the city of Everett and surrounding cities for Functions, sports,
weather, news with dates and times.
#14 Aug 29, 2012
Will it be an English speaking radio station?
#15 Aug 30, 2012
I would listen to it! How nice!
#16 Aug 30, 2012
Great idea. I will listen...
#17 Aug 30, 2012
Yes it would be in English an all the oldies music would be in English. Again If and when this might happen I will not be connected to any City of Everett Government or anything to do with the Mayor.
Maybe in time but I would be glad to announce any announcements for Functions for the Elderly Sports
other non profit organizations here in Everett and surrounding cities within the signal coverage.
Low power radios FM stations limit the power to 100 watts so the coverage would be 3-5 miles but my main concern is to the people of Everett. I would never have any City Government or Elected official benefit from the Station with his or her personal or city announcements.
Again the agenda would be Talk, local news, weather ,sports scores and schedules and non profit announcements.
There are many schools and colleges that have been granted licenses for the LPFMR and private non profit Public Services for local cities.
Yes there are plenty of Pirate radio stations in Boston that have been caught and told to stop transmitting. And if not Fined. I will have to apply for a License soon and see what happens.
I'm sure I will get a lot of crap and jealously from some people and if they want to make any false reports to the FCC remember all shows will be recorded. Don't make a fool of your self to spite someone trying to do something good for the city of Everett that will not cost them a dime for this to happen.
I'm sure most of you all grew up with the oldies and would like to have a nice Saturday night oldies show in your home town. Maybe even might be able to have some oldies contest but will have to wait on that.
I will keep all posted with progress
I will keep all posted on the progress

I think its a great idea
The Everett newspapers aren't worth the paper they are printed on,
another perspective would be a benefit to all.
I do have a few questions, if you don't mind,
how old are you,
did you grow up in Everett?
What hours are you thinking about broadcasting?
#19 Aug 30, 2012
My age I will keep a secret for now. I grew up liking the Oldies music.
I did grow up in Everett.
Hours of broadcast is still up in the air for a time schedule.
(a) All LPFM stations will be licensed for unlimited time operation, except those stations operating under a time sharing agreement pursuant to § 73.872.
(b) All LPFM stations are required to operate at least 36 hours per week, consisting of at least 5 hours of operation per day on at least 6 days of the week; however, stations licensed to educational institutions are not required to operate on Saturday or Sunday or to observe the minimum operating requirements during those days designated on the official school calendar as vacation or recess periods.

Just an update
Looks like I will most likely start up a Streaming Radio station that anyone can listen in with a computer or smart phone.
At this moment the FCC is not giving out LPFM stations until this spring and I will have to wait to file for one then.
In filing you have to have all your i's dotted and T crossed to get a LPFM station.
The Internet streaming means you will go to my web site and click on Listen Live with also a link to Instant message or email for request.
I will again state this has nothing to do with the City of Everett at this time but could in the near future.
The station will include
A Saturday night Oldies program from 6pm to midnight.
Music of the 50s 60s 70s 80s
Local Function Adds
Music request Oldies programs
Birthday etc announcements
Any announcement that will be of public Service.
No Political Advertisements allowed.
This again will cost money to file with a server and will be covered by me, not you or any part of the city of Everett.
This will be a free service to all city and local town services.
The cost to run for a complete year is around $1000.00 a year plus equipment that will be set up for live calls and request.
I would like your input into the start up of WEVE streaming radio.
I know when I did a Live oldies contest years ago it was a fun Saturday night people listening to music and trying to guess the name and artist then call in to add to the score. At the end of the night I did give out prizes then but this time It will just be the recognition of winning that night's Oldies contest. I do have a great selection of oldies back to the 50's.
So please chime in and let me know if all would give it a shot and listen in on their computers.
If your computer is on might as well put it to good use.
Programing will be on M-Fri 6pm- 10-pm and Saturday will be the WEVE Saturday night oldies 6-12 midnight as time goes by maybe more broadcasting time.
Sundays NO Air Time
There might be a Saturday night that might be recorded and not live for certain reasons
If I'm lucky I will be granted a LPFM when this spring time comes and then onto the FM radio band but I will link the station that will still stream on the internet for people who will not be able to get the signal.
Well thanks for your time and please chime in for a yes or no.
