All teachers in this area are paid very well and have big fat pensions. Boo hoo for them. Try working in the private sector only to have your pension take away half way through your career.

As previously said this isn't about money or pensions!!! Talk to a teacher....
Your comment is an insult to me as a parent! Even though every teacher deserves the highest pay possible, your Everett teachers have never once commented negatively about their pay. This is about being the best teachers they can be to their students!
Call and talk to the teachers before you comment on their reasoning! Your worried about what the children will think when you are not even getting the full story!!!
I'm with you teachers!

As stated, the issue isn' about the increase they were offered... it is about improving instruction which directly effects the students. Kudos to the teachers! Also, you probably believe that you contribute to those big, fat, pensions.... wrong. A teachers funds almost all of their pension 9about 96%) by contributing 11% of their salary for 30+ years... newer teachers (as of July 2012) pay into their pension by more than 100%! Lastly, you could've chosen to stay in school & trained to be an educator, but you probably thought it was beneath you... you know, dealing w/ peoples kids & making so little money! You sound like you chose your path in the private sector, cruised while you could, & then became the victim of downsizing when they evaluated their staff & removed the dead wood! What's the matter...matching contributions, 401K, profit sharing, etc... not enough for you?

You do realize that most municipal employees that have started work in the last 10 years are basically funding their own pension. I pay 11.5 % of my salary to my pension. The Town I work for does not fund any of the pension yearly. You also realize that all municipal employees including state and local government do not pay social security, so we get no social security benefits. All we have are our pensions, which we fund.

So get your facts straight.

Not only do they not pay into Social Security in those positions but if the have worked other jobs or even have a second job currently that they do pay into social security they will then be subject to the Government Pension Offset which is not fair, and lastly the same offset applies if they have a spouse who pays onto it and should the spouse pass away then the offset applies when they are eligible to retire and collect. I think that teachers are like nurses ~ it takes a certain kind of person to be in those careers. No, I am not a nurse either :)

As oppressive as the Everett School Department may be to its employees, it does not mean that these teachers forfeited their Constitutional right to assemble peaceably.

Why are certain people making such a huge deal about teacher's walking into school together??? Seriously!!! The parent's at my children's school were fully aware of it being an anti-bully day at school on Friday and we SUPPORTED it 150%!! Some even participated instead of sitting at home making rude comments about teachers! Maybe some ppl on here need to learn a thing or two about this subject from there kids

The teachers were not supporting anti-bullying. It was a sign of soladarity on a union matter.

In any industry work = pay. The amount of time teachers put in (inside and outside of school) plus the 10s of thousands they spend out of pocket to get the needed masters degree does not equal the pay. Our kids are in school longer than any other city and those teachers have meetings every week that others don't- dollar for dollar minute for minute they don't get paid well- my sister is a teacher and my daughter is a student- people with masters degrees and beyond full time jobs get more in any other industry- do you have a degree at all? Doubt it.
