According to The Voice, our jail will officially close January 15. Do you feel it was poor management, lack of funds, or another reason this happened? What will McCreary County do to fix this situation?

We will raise taxes to buy land on a steep hill side and build a new jail. Taxes will only be raised for the next 20 years, and by then we will be use to paying that tax and we will forget about the 20 year plan. But only raise taxes on the working man, no need to Tax everyone.

I'm really worried about our county. I'm sure this will end up costing us big money, and I don't know where they will get it. That was my only fear with the alcohol vote, that if we won, all the extra tax money would just be wasted like it has before. I think it's time for a change of leadership in McCreary County.

If the county was not having to pay for all the lawsuits like the one with the ACLU (that Greene caused to just get his name in the spotlight) the county would have more money to run the things that are needed.

Hell Ronnie why stop at 5%, lets just go on and make it 25%, the working man don't need all that money, He's rich!!! Go on and add 25% to the property tax too. After all, only the rich people can afford to have property. The people who draw check's shouldn't have to contribute to housing criminals. We stay at home and can protect our own property, its the working man that needs the protections because hes at work getting rich. So let the rich folks pay for the Jail. Lets put toll roads on all roads leading into the county, Anyone without a dent in their cars can pay $20.00 to enter, and if leaving and they don't have a dent it's $50.00 or choice of a hit with a baseball bat and $25.00. And come election time, it's $100.00 to vote, and if you don't vote for people that are already in officer, it will be $500.00 a vote. If we need more money after that, I will come up with more ways to tax the working man, you just let me know. We will make him sorry he ever wanted to work in the first place!!!

Maybe they should tax your food stamps and welfare check instead.

Instead of taxing the working man, lets tax the nonworkers that go to jail repeatedly. I mean if they are going to use it as their home away from home let them pay for a new one.
If you want to find statistics about the jail closing go look at the county audit, the mccreary record has a link on their facebook page, it shows in detail there are money missing out of commissary fund, construction completed by current jailers brother that is in question (i mean why was job not advertised and bids taken?, did fiscal court know and approve anyway?, maybe because his brother is part of fiscal court!)
Does anyone know what SMART money is? Probably not. Only officials family seem to know. Citizens could go get low interest loans to start or fund their current businesses. However, collateral was never received and few ever paid any money back. Sign me up for FREE MONEY!
Does anyone not think that our elected officials has anything to do with jail closing? I mean a former grave digger has all the experience and managment skills needed to run a jail.
How are charges not filed on $18,000 missing from jail? All but $7,000 was returned. What needs to happen is when officials get elected, they shouldn't be able to hire just any Tom, Dick, or Harry as an employee if they have no experience or credentials.

I fully agree. Jimmy made his bed, let him lie in it. The whole county does not need to be piled in the bed with him. If Jimmy gets any type of retirement or benefits from the county, they should go toward the lawsuit. This current system is not fair at all.

That old run down jail reflects on the citizens of McCreary County, All the other Counties have nice jails. Why not buy and put bars over the windows of that big hotel out there on 27 and use it for a jail.

It was probably funded with SMART money so the county should technically own it! LOL
