You must admit Stephens was elected to a mess he did not create. Phillips bought the county land to put a park on that can not be fully developed, it is mostly a hillside that can never be used. On the other hand the county needed a place for a park, but this place is a waste of the counties money. Good old selfpromoting Greene put the county in debit with the ACLU just so that he could see his name up in lights. I do wish Stephens would do a better job, I did have high hopes. These are just my oppions and don't amount to a hill of beans. Sorry for rambling. May the county have better luck in the future.

I don't ever see any of you running for office. Before you judges someone for the works, you might want to think about yourself. Have you ever ran for office to change things in the county? NOO!!! Do something besides talk trash about someone and run for an office.

As taxpayers and voters, we have a duty to hold our elected officials accountable.

Maybe so, but some of your group is going about it the wrong way. Instead of bad mouthing certain people they should be trying to help find solutions to the problems.

I know the solution to one of the problems-----let Greene pay for the problems he has caused the county out of his own pocket. He only did some of the things he did while in office to promote himself and get his name in the news, always did like to see himself in the paper.

Could you be more specific? The reason I ask is this- Lots of people who get on the Advance page and complain are just doing so on that fb page. There are about 30 consistent members who attend the meetings, which is where the work is really done. If you've attended our meetings, you know that if you come in there saying bad things about our officials, we want facts to back up your statements. Our real problems here have been handed down to us from several different administrations and are compounded by the fact that we are a poor county. 23rd poorest county in the USA, to be exact. Add to this that we only have 30 citizens in this county that really want to see a change, and you can see why nothing ever gets done. If we wanted to see our jail opened again, for example, there would be 200 or more people every Saturday morning in front of the courthouse, with signs and TV crews from all over, demanding that the state open our jail again. I am on good terms with the judge, deputy judge, and a couple of the magistrates. Because I am friends with them, does this mean I shouldn't expect them to represent my goals of turning this county around, and making it a better place to live? That's not the way government was envisioned by our founding fathers. we could play the blame game and go all the way back to the beginning of the county, it's not going to help at all. What we need are new ideas, and to start solving problems instead of passing them on down to the next administrations. Maybe you think i'm a little radical, but I can promise you this- If something isn't done about this jail situation soon, the few people that do hold a job in McCreary will see an increase in the occupational tax. If fiscal court doesn't raise the tax, then we will be a bankrupt county. It's basic math, you can't pay out more than you take in.

What's wrong with paying a little more tax. If it will keep the county from going under I am willing to do so. And actually I have heard there is several members of the Advance group that like to talk trash about some elected officials. And from what I heard some of those have a pretty shady past themselves.

Talking like this, it's hard to believe that you pay taxes. I'm more then willing to pay my fair share; but, I'm tired of seeing my money wasted on made-up jobs, projects, and inept officials who don't know how to make a budget and stick to it.
Look at the money the county has pulled in for the past several years for enhanced 911 and it's still not working; where did all that money go?

So you're willing to pay more tax? When that's squandered away, do we just up our tax rates again? Also, I can't speak for everyone, but I am a member and if I have anything in my past, it's none of your business. I'm a taxpayer and have a right to know where my tax money goes. As for trash talking, I go to the courthouse and get my facts straight before I post anything. I've made a lot of posts about our jail situation, and I can back them all up with facts. I'm not happy with our jail situation, and I have researched not only the money spent by the jail, but money that was put into the jail fund. If that's "trash talking," then I'm guilty as charged.

It would just give them (fiscal court & judge) more to waste. They would put it in the general fund, and Lord only knows where it would go. Seems like nobody is accountable. The general fund weaves so much confusion that would be impossible to interpret! Guess it takes special talent to do that!!! Maybe they are genuises after all.

To the person that posted using the name 'Mccreary County', it may be best to not post under a name that groups all residents of MC into one group. Your statement reflects your opinions and with using McCreary County as a title,it sounds as if that's the opinion of all residents. We each have opinions and our individual voices. Thanks!

The whole fiscal court is a disappointment. The best magistrate we have is that Ball man.

If you have a problem with anything of the county, you can always pack your crap and move elsewhere.
