There has been a "special session" of the fiscal court called for tomorrow, Jan. 31st, at 4pm. In this session, the court plans to vote to take the occupational tax and put it directly into the general fund, instead of splitting it up between EMS, deputies, tourism, etc. it seems that paying other counties to house our prisoners is putting a financial strain on the county. I seem to remember them telling us that we were going to SAVE money on this deal. What happened?

Sounds to me like they are gonna spend the occupational tax money the way they want to which is not for tourism, ambulance dept., or sheriff's department. In the paper it said eventually pay the tax money back to those who are suppose to get it...yeah, right...like that will ever happen! I didn't just fall off the turnip truck! They are gonna pay for the prisoners to be housed and of course pay the ten commandments lawsuit. They must think the people in McCreary County are stupid.
Enjoy your judge-executive checks for the next couple of years because there is a better chance of Tony Ball being re-elected than there is for you. You have let the county down as well as the people who elected you.

What disturbed me most about the meeting was not the occupational tax going to general fund or even the $100,000 loan they ok'd to give themselves from the economic development fund (by the way, is that legal?). The most disturbing thing by far was when a citizen asked the court what their future plans for the county were. You would have thought he had said something about their mothers. They have no plans, not even on how to repay the $100,000 if they have to use it. One magistrate (Ball) even snipped back at the citizen, "What's YOUR Plan?" Then he told the people that if they didn't like the way they were running things, they should elect different people to office in the next election. Will do, Mr. Ball. Will do.

Elect new people and get them to do away with occupational tax. Are they holding everyone accountable on paying it anyways? If not then a lot of people owe a lot of back taxes probably. Who checks into and enforces this?

Sounds like the wheels are coming off of the county all the way around. I still say, give Wayne, Whitley and Pulaski Counties their land back and call it a failed 100 year experiment. No meaningful development is going on. Things are going woefully backwards.

Maybe if fiscal court held it's meeting at 6 - 7:00pm, more citizens might be able to attend. Perhaps it's scheduled early on a work & school day to avoid a large group of attendees?

Would it really matter. If they had it at that time you would probably still wouldn't go.You would complain that it was too late. If you remember it used to at a later time. And the public wanted it earlier. So you all should have taken an interest months ago. You are probably one that voted for Tony Ball so quit complaining.

1. Town hall meetings now? Why I recall that being what one said he planned on doing when he ran for the position. Not the first one held in two yrs yet that I know of.
2. Occupational tax. If they raise it, I also recall hearing certain ones say they would never back it.
3. The reason people run for office is because of the money. If you keep voting for the person because you think he/she is a good old boy/girl then there are going to be times you made the wrong choice. Belonging to this and that is also fine but being popular doesn't make one the most qualified. I've seen too many times a person won this way but in reality I knew the people messed up because the person was going to be in over their head. Ignorance of the job to be done is usually the down fall but a lot of times it is ignorance and laziness mixed. They just want their check with no hassle. They do not want to be engaged into something they just don't comprehend how it works. Either elected officials need to be serious about the job they took on or people in the county need to get into kicking some balls.

.....that being our own individual set. Nobody to blame but ourselves for how we vote.

The fault belongs to those who bought in to the "good old boy" mentality; not the minority that voted against the current admin.

I do agree. I am one who has voted for ones that aren't exactly my favorite type of person, but felt they did atleast have some good sense when it comes to business.....then you have it the "good old boy" always prevailed. That's just the way it is....somethings will never change.

AMEN!! When I vote again, I'll do it with both eyes open. Never again will AI vote for friends, friends of friends, family members or friends of family members. My minds made up now; I will vote for no current member of fiscal court!!

You may get asked to "pony up" or "vote someone else in next election" or better yet " If you don't like it then move out of here".. Just some of the quoits from the last fiscal court meeting..

I was talking to Mr. Ball the magistrate before he was elected. I expressed my concerns about the future of our county and he said "If you are unhappy, why don't you move". I knew at that moment that he was as dumb as a box of rocks and time has proven me right.
