it's a combo of all these things-parents, teachers, money, dope, booze, rincipals, superintendent, sports, bad kids, but i put the most blame on o'bama and the bushes.

It's parents who could care less if their kids learn and rebellious children would be at the top of my list. The drugs and alcohol by parents and piss poor discipline are partially to blame making the kids rebellious and apathetic to learn. Most want to blame the school board, superintendent, and teachers. OK, no county in the US has perfect administration, so we can't point a finger at our county's faculty and leadership and blame the entirely. Most every school system in the U.S. has sports, so cross that off the list. Lack of funding plays a big part also, the county schools lack curriculum that is offered in bigger city schools.

Teaching a child starts at home. Teaching "time" literally starts when a child wakes up in the morning, and when the school day is over their lessons should continue until bedtime.. I'm not talking about literally doing math, etc, all day long. I'm talking about teaching them traits to make them better adults. "Teaching" also needs to start early in a childs life. So I personally believe that if there is a problem, it usually starts within the home.

Children need to learn positive standards and have structure in their lives. Those things are taught through example by someone they love and trust.

Add a lack of those learned traits with an unqualified staff of teachers, and you've got an avalanche of fails where our children are the victims. We've let some of them down so badly.

No leadership which leads to poor employee morale.

Bad parenting. You listed rebellious kids, that's got a lot to do with bad parenting also. I didn't go to school here, but grew up and attended schools in a rural setting similar to McCreary County. Class clowns and teacher's pests were dealt with with a paddle. Nowadays it isn't politically correct to discipline a kid at home or school, thanks to Dr. Spock and several other idiotic liberals. What few teachers I know here are very intelligent and I don't point a finger at them, the principals, superintendent, or school board members.

I know this question was asked from an academic standpoint but my answer will go further than that.
Look way back to when the decline in education began in America as a whole. The worst thing we ever did was let that atheist windbag Madelyn Murray O"Hair and her minority dictate to the rest of us resulting in God and Prayer being taken out of school. When that happened, rebellion, drugs and just a bad work ethic came in. Compound that by about three or four generations and you see why things are as they are today. Public screwels are lacking everywhere, not just there in McCreary County. Sadly because the county is in a rural underdeveloped area, the rest of the problems suffered by education in America is magnified there. What will fix things? I really could not say. We have probably let the Godless, the ACLU and their enablers gain too much ground now to take things back as the need to be but to start the push would not hurt.
Just my opinion.

Buckwheat you got the Gold Star from me, it's well deserved. That heathen generation that Dr Spock told America they shouldn't be paddled and allowed to "express themselves" almost ruined America. No need to criticize our McCreary system, I know college graduates from all over the country who don't know how to spell the word CAT if you spotted them CA.

The schools are so bad because no one will buy the doughnuts, magazine subscriptions, other products, or support the car washes and other fundraising activities put on by the students.

From the poll results, I see bad parenting is overwhelming leading, and I tend to agree. Looks like bad superintendent is coming in second. Why? Is he that bad?

No, it's probably the parents who can't or won't admit that it's THEM, who are voting against the man... Thank about it for a minute.

Its not JUST the parents. This school system is totally crooked and do not care about nothing but the money that goes in their pockets. They don't care about the kids at all and the schools tend to try to take over a child's life. Don't be trying to teach my kids morals.
