I hope they are thoroughly checking some of the resident's homes and shacks around the area....I recall some pretty "different" people on the other side of the river leading up to Sawmill Peak.

Maybe he was disoriented and got lost. Maybe he hitched a ride and got into trouble.

so sorry to hear this. with the rugged terrain of the area, it would be easy to have an accidental fall, etc. since my son and his family moved to magalia from ohio last year i have had concerns about these kinds of things happening to them as they are avid hikers, and love to explore this wonderful terrain. i did reseaech on the area and found there are many drug cartells out of mexico runnung meth labs in this heavily wooded, mountainous county area surrounding areas. from what i read, if a person accidentally approaches this area, that the people running these labs can/will kill anyone approaching them. i want to think positively and hope this has not happened to this young man. it seems that many do not realize the ongoing danger of driving/hiking thru this continuous mountain terrain. i pray my son/family take note of this and chose more wisely as they explore this wonderful part of n. ca.thoughts/prayers are w/ you all.

i hope this turns out well... but i have to say, if you go out by yourself and something happens to your vehicle, you should never leave it!!! the likelihood of suffering hypothermia or something else happening is so much worse. Remember the family in Oregon and the husband went out looking or help? it was his wife and kids in the car for days who survived. if you break down in the middle of nowhere, please stay with the vehicle. it may take days, but your friends and family who love you and are no doubt looking for you will find it, with you safely inside.

i sure hope this man is found safe.

---i agree w/ you--roaming the mountains, especialy this time of yr is dangerous--it would be silly to hurt a hiker OR someone walking because SEARCHERS WILL BE LOOKING FOR THEM--those "cartels" dont think of consequences--i hope he turns up "safe" but this cold, wet weather & the time element are not in his favor---to his family,KEEP YOUR CHIN UP
