Metro Transit Prop 1 needs to Pass!

If prop 1 fails, Metro will delete 74 routes, and reduce schedules on many more. Buses will come less often and be more crowded.
Over half of the 400,000 daily Metro riders say they will start driving alone in their cars if the bus is not available. And a third of regular bus riders plan to buy another car if their bus was cut. This adds more traffic congestion and is bad for the environment.
The environment as well as commuters would suffer from the 30,000+ extra cars idling in the ensuing traffic jams. Everyone benefits from public transportation; whether it’s in the form of reduced traffic for commuters, reduced emissions for the environment or increased access to basic needs.
Current congestion costs the average commuter in rush-hour (more than 6 hours per day) well over a thousand dollars per year according to the Transportation Institute of Texas A&M. Funding transit is the cheapest option even for those who drive and do not ride
Many low wage workers barely earn more than minimum wage. Affording car insurance let alone gas for a car is a challenge. Cutting bus service could result in forcing uninsured drivers into cars. An uninsured motorist is everyone’s issue. Who are we helping by cutting bus service?
