Taking back Terrace Ave. in Hempstead

Full story: Newsday

Every time Harold Humdy Sr. leaves his Hempstead apartment complex for work or for a trip to the store, he walks past the spot where his only son and namesake was gunned down.

then they have figured out a way to collect section 8 like their "brothers"..... a hopeless bock in a hopeless city. Nassau County should stop wasting money and let it all implode. You can't save what does not want to be saved.

Save? Sounds like you need saving and the world needs saving from people like you. Stop being part of the problem. Be the solution.

Start being part of the solution???? There have been projects, programs and countless other efforts pushed in to try and help the people of Hempstead. You can not save those who don't want to be saved. The typical 18 year old in Hempstead is at DSS opening a public assistance case of their own.
How about someone go into Hempstead High School and hold the school accountable for not educating the youth, then lets move to the population of people who have each others kids on their DSS case so that they can receive section 8, then lets figure out why they are more motivated to steal and lie before they would ever dream of going out to look for gainful employment.
I salute your efforts, but people do not care what happens to a bunch of people who have spent their entire lives sucking off the system.

Stop disrespecting the efforts of iamblu and other good citizens who are desperately trying to right SOME, if not all, of the wrongs going on in Hempstead, my hometown.I happen to be white, but deep down am empathetic about the continuing cycle in which the young people get caught up in the system that their parents, and yes grandparents, have treaded. Education and jobs, of course, are the answer to this plight and a project like iamblu's may make a dent in the depravity. I say, DON'T GIVE UP ON HEMPSTEAD

It's amazing how outsiders always have something to say that's negative. The schools are not only responsible for educating the youth. The parents must stand up and be the primary educator in your child's life. There has not been one project or program that has totally focused on TERRACE AVE. There are many nonprofits and community leaders who like myself are out here fighting for Hempstead as a whole. How do you know they don't want to be saved? How many times have you come to Terrace Ave and spoke to the residents? Don't answer that because we all know the answer is NONE. Its people like yourself who continue to bring the world down. We are one community separated by invisible borders called villages and towns. We must take care of each other no matter what the color of skin is, income level, education level. This is why America will not prosper or survive. How can anyone be a millionaire on one side of the street and see others struggling on the next side. As far as Section 8 and DSS. Yes there are people who take advantage of the system. With my own eyes I have seen all races and ethnicities do this. I do'nt want to figure out why they are motivated to steal and lie. I want to expose and educate them so that they don't have to. Many of the residents on Terrace Ave were born and raised there. This lifestyle is all they know. With people like yourself bashing them no positive words or thoughts why would you expect them to change. Everyone has a hustle. Be it legally or illegal we all HUSTLE. I ask you this...stay away from my block with your negativity and watch my work. You can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Newsday, Tv10/55, News 12, and here if you like. My efforts are never wasted this much I promise but your words are.

Thank you for supporting me and the residents of Terrace Ave. My plight is for the children. They are our future. When they are on board the adults will follow. Education and jobs is not the always the answer. This is the mind state of the adults that is being passed down to the kids. We must act early to change and expose them. My movement has made a dent in lives. In the six months that I have been doing this 5 lives have been changed and there is more to come. So let the negative ones speak loud. And watch how quiet they are when the work matches the words. Happy Father's Day and God Bless.

Keep defending the problem, Hempstead as a whole is a dump, and T Ave is the bottom of the dump. I assure you I know all about the non-profits in there helping- I know all about the Hempstead Initiative, wasted money on people who could care less about better themselves.

Terrace ave is still a dump but it has definitely improved dramatically over the past few years. You used to not be able to drive down without getting aggressively solicited for drugs. Now you don't see any drug dealing

It's not Hempstead high school. I went to that school and did pretty well. it's the kids from homes where the parents don't give a crap. Everyone always wants to blame the school system. Throughout my time at Hempstead high school, I remained in AP classes-when they existed-and was more than adequately prepared for college.

The problem we had came from those delinquents who terrorized the other student. Sadly to say, they all lived on the heights. Now the ignorance has spread and they now have turf wars.

It is in my opinion that the only way the concerned citizens of Hempstead are going to clean up Hempstead is to stop glorifying street life and start giving out ultimatums. "If you want to live in our town, do the right thing or get the F-- out!" Raise the rents, evict a few folks, take a few houses and establish a law that if you are thrown out, it will be pretty hard for you to rent elsewhere in our town. A recreation center is only going to be a new outlet for the bums to congregate and do more wrong because the good people will be too afraid to go there....Social programs....rewards for being wrong!

If they clean up terrace ave i believe it would be
a better place to live.
Something needs to be done.
Too much drugs and voilence.
This has been going on since i was school.
But that's the thing, the people don't want to live better. They don't care how they act or what they do or who they do it to. Terrace will NEVER GET BETTER because there are not enough people that want it. Its disgusting place I've driven down it plenty of times simply because is like a zoo. U go to the zoo to see animals in there habitats. And that's what it is... A ZOO. Its so funny, there is a camera every 10 feet and it does no good. They just don't care. Animals.

^^Chances are that this person is just a troll who is just trying to get people to bash blacks and incite racial tensions. Hopefully, whoever reads that is smart enough to not fall into the trap and do what the troll wants them to do.

On another note- as for Terrace Ave; it's a class thing, not a race thing. The vast majority of black people work and aren't on programs{especially on overpriced Long Island}.

Whoever wants to turn this into a racial issue either needs to either grow up and get a damn education or straight up kill themselves.
