She may not be tall in stature, but educator Sally Shields...
This strikes me as being a bit prejudicial. Height shouldn't be looked at as a 'handicap' any more than race, religion, national origin etc. It doesn't ad to the story and makes it sound like, well she is capable in spite of her being short. It seems to me, she is just capable.
I don't believe that this was intentionally said to be demeaning, but if it was some other characteristic of a person that was compared against their ability, it might seem completely outrageous.

They forgot an "o" in a word in the sentence!
