Because Columbus opened the worlds eyes to the different geography of the earth, and that although many thought the world to be flat; that it was indeed round. By Columbus taking the four voyages he was able to tell everyone that there are many different types of paths to travel, and that the world isn't just solid earth. He altered economics by trading with the people of the world on his travels and bringing them back to his country...exposing everyone to a different culture.

Christopher Columbus, every child should know his name. Without him, there would have been no discovery of the caribbean, which he called the "West Indies", or America.

Most of you have very limited knowledge on this.

I'm just a Junior in school (also writing this same essay) and it took 20 seconds to find out more than this. Try this link and READ it:
http://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Christopher_Colu...

If you read it, you'll find that the Europeans knew long before his first journey in 1492 that the world was round -- the question was the earth's total circumference. The main thing that changed was his discovery of the knew lands, which most Europeans never even imagined.

Christopher Columbus was not a "good" guy at all -- he demanded large sums of money from whatever he found, high positions, and took credit for discoveries that weren't his.(A shipmate saw the landmass of The Bahamas, San Salvador, but he claimed credit for this.)

Anyway, this should help you all out a lot more. Wikipedia is a great source despite what people say.

And now I need to type this essay... I'm not going to like it, either. >_>

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Sagittarius

You're wearing rose-tinted glasses today, especially when you look at some of the special people in your life. Right now you only want to see their good points and you'll deliberately turn a blind eye to any faults that might be on show. If you can escape from the real world for a day with you-know-who you'll have a marvelously romantic and emotional time together. But do your best to come back to earth tomorrow.
