I hate these laws. Sure, enforce adults to buckle their children in safely, but let the adults do as they wish.

Nanny state for the lose.

Having some formidable, first hand experience with the gut
wagon rideouts, I'll just ask you if you've ever picked glass out around the head of the victim from being thrown thru the windshield on impact?

Her seatbelt was not fastened when we hit the accident scene. We were first responders. She was DOA/Hosp. Her parents did not recognize her at the hospital.
I'll chose to buckle up. You do as you like.
choose wisely.

And that's my point. Choice. As adults we should have the personal choice to buckle or otherwise. I chose buckling because it is the safest and wisest decision. But the State should not be deciding for me.

Nanny states are not cool. Next up; citation for slicing your finger with a kitchen knife. You should've been wearing protective gloves.

Rational Thinker, I understand your stance on less government involvement in issues like the seat belt one and agree to a certain extent, but besides the proven statistics of decreases in loss of life, or traumatic injuries, have you ever considered the financial impact these decreases have made?

Like Alligators, I've been there and done that so know what a tremendous difference seat belts make in lessening the severity of injuries.

Thanx for making that point too, Freq. Millions are likely saved in health care just by buckling a damn seat belt. Not to mention lessened injury from restrained impact blows.

RT, I agree about the no nanny states, but when folks are just too defiant to wear something that can and will save their life and lower medical care costs..........

I know. It's a slippery slope towards TOO much regulation.

Exactly.

I understand fully the monetary savings associated with people buckling that belt, it's huge. But if that's all we're going for, let's ticket people for smoking, drinking, and overeating. These three activities result in billions of dollars in extra costs for hospitals and insurance companies, while also resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

But driving is a privilege -- not a right. We license drivers, we have traffic laws, we require registration, inspections and insurance. Wearing a seatbelt is just a part of that. If you argue for doing away with seatbelts, you must also argue away the rest of it.

It should not cost 150 dollars to not have it on. If motorcycle riders can have helmet laws repealed, we should do a away with the seatbelt laws. Airbags have made major advancemets since the seat belt law was enacted.

Agreed. And why all these road blocks & such just to check for seat belts? They could simply wire modern cars where they wouldn't even crank up, unless the seat belts are fastened. If they can send a man to the moon, I think they have the technology to do this. Road blocks and check points remind me too much of the 1920's and 1930's in Germany.

first of all if you are doing 80 in a 30, seatbelt belt law is the last of your worries. Your a DumbA** for doing 80 in a 30. Seatbelts do save lives..yes but the police or the state elected officials shouldn't tell me i have to wear my seatbelt. If it is all about saving lives then no matter what insurance motorcycles have they should be required to wear a helmet.

whats next? smoking should be banned, fast food, Beer Stores, etc.. it only about $$$ they dont give a crap about people. they want there money either by giving a ticket, or if the seat belts saves your life then you can pay them more taxes(home, gas, and every other thing they get taxes from).

It would make me feel good knowing i went to school and trained to be a paris police officer to protect and serve the people just to give them seatbelt tickets. why don't they crack down on the dead beat dads, no insurance having drivers, drugs, or theft? Paris finest is to busy giving the hard criminals seatbelt tickets!
Yes I got one today. First time I have been pulled over in 6-7 years for anything. If the worst i ever do in my life is not wear a seat belt then i can live with that.

When they train police officers, they train them to enforce state laws. They take an oath then simply do their job. They are not writing laws, they are enforcing them. Yet they take all the crap. Legislation SETS AND PASSES the laws. Once in effect the cops are made to enforce them. Don't get on the cop because one of the officials YOU elected set a law, YOU knew about it and YOU didn't follow it. If you don't like it talk to someone other than the policeman writing the ticket. He/She is simply doing what YOU pay taxes for them to do. Enforce the LAW.

My car will make such a noise that just to shut it up you will put it on, it will show me who doesn't have the belt on and if the front passenger isn't a certain weight it turns the airbag off, they are making some smart cars these days....

Seatbelts do not have anything to do with helmets. Seriously.
I wear a seatbelt in my car and it has saved my life on more than one occasion however as far as helmets.....the law is the law.

Smoking is the only one that harms others. If you drink, it does not effect my health. If you eat fast food, only you get fat. Not me. If you SMOKE, I must breath it too. Yes, smoking should and WILL be banned. Thanks for making a great point!

It is also a well known fact that some have lived because they were not wearing a seatbelt. I know many people who were thrown from the vehicle, and survived. Our personal rights are going by the wayside rapidly, and I fear will soon be gone. I strongly believe it should be a choice.

I believe the fine in Dallas is now $200.00. Not $150.00. I do wear my seatbelt always, but that is my choice, and it is the law afterall.

So have you contacted your state representative? I don't know, but I have a suspicion that federal highway funds may be tied to whether or not a state has a seatbelt law. Anybody know?

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Leo

If you were unable to resolve yesterday's difficulties they'll be even more pronounced today a Mars turns retro in your sign. Get everything out in the open so you can discuss it, otherwise you run the risk of harbouring resentments and grudges that will emerge further down the line. Be prepared to hear some home truths and also to deliver a few of your own. But be fair!
