If we wanted to be inundated with aids-infested detritus and the offal of bay area hypocrites and whack-jobs, we'd live in California. Please keep your trash at home where it belongs.

First off, I do want to acknowledge that none of the friends and family I have in the bay area would be supportive of the fact, that, while they are all focusing on being green, the bay area's trash company, Recology, is looking to move 4000 tons a trash a day from the Bay area (not just San Francisco), 5 days a week, for 95 years to a small community in Nevada: Winnemucca. Jungo Road, part of the Black Rock, to be precise. While it is a different location of the Black Rock Playa, it is the same Black Rock that Burning man organizers and participants so neatly leave 'no trace behind' after their annual event.
This trash ('landfill'):
-Is near a water source and seismic activity
-Near homes, where cattle graze and people recreate
-Will include abestos, waste sludge, and tires
-Is being proposed to Winnemucca at a low-ball rate of $1 a ton while they will still, apparently, pay the state of CA a $1.85 a ton for the privelege of managing their garbage (even tho it will be in NV, and NV can learn alot from CA on this). According to reports, Recology pays much more for landfill hosting in CA AND is required to follow stricter rules to get a landfill approved.
-May or may not create 25 jobs in this community. 25 jobs in a community surrounded by some of the top producing gold mines in the country isn't significant.
-Is being placed near a community with only a volunteer fire dept…not a formal, fully-staffed department.
-Will get more trash from CA in 3 days than Winnemucca produces in a year.

Recology already owns and operates landfills in CA that they are looking to expand. Why build a new one? Focus on efficiencies and safety in the existing landfills.

Recology also touts the fact that moving this trash by train is 'greener' than moving it by truck. So, better for all. Also, that this helps them help SF achieve a 0% footprint. Not the kind of stats or logic I can follow and believe.

Reid wrote to Gibbons on 9/9/09 asking him to help stop the new landfill. While Gibbons has an opportunity to step up, I don't see it happening. I am positive the people of the bay area wouldn't quite see the logic in this land fill, and that all Reid has to do is call Pelosi, and say, "Hey NANCE...this landfill thing...knock it off..."

Also, I'd like to see the Humboldt County Commissioners and local government support the message they are getting from Humboldt County citizens. Fransway is right.

Many people choose to live in smaller communities due to clean environments. Because these communities, to others, are small and remote, doesn't mean they can be or should be used as dumps.

Thanks. Get aware, and get involved:

Let California keep thier own waste. They should reuse and recycle thier own waste and not make it a problem for others.

Dump it in Mexico.
Most of it originated from there in the first place.

Mexico Rules. As does China, India, Paki, Africa, Liberia, Canada, etc.

The white trash in the USA is the real problem.

I'm happy to see the foreign born owners take over the three gasoline stations here in Winni and fire the white skinned USA tramps.
Time for the world to take over from the USA.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Aries

One of the family needs plenty of love and attention today, but the trouble is that you may not be able to spare the time. If so, you'll be consumed with guilt and self-reproach, and this may become so strong that it casts a blight over the day. So do what you can to let them know you're thinking about them, but resist the temptation to berate yourself over things you can't change.
