Someone needs to get this family to a lawyer. The school is refusing to speak to the mother, or to answer any questions about the teacher. The teacher, the principal and the school district can all be held liable in civil court not only for the actual physical and psychological damages to the child, but can also face punitive damages for the way they have so arrogantly avoided their legal responsibilities. This family should walk away from this with a six figure trust fund for the child (and the title to the teacher's home, if there's any justice!).
The school system has lost sight of the fact that it exists for the good of the CHILD, not the welfare of the teachers.
All it takes is one serious case of making an example to reverse the culture of arrogance and entitlement among the school system which is so glaringly evident in this incident.
