Hiring Itner to be the architec will be a big Mistake. They designed the white castle middle school in Columbia that went way over budget, that has outlandish high utilty bills and all kinds of other problems.

Take a look at Belle Valley School in Belleville which is way to expensive.
Now they are wasting tax dollars with a fancy prodject at Swic.

They go out of their way to make projects as expensive as possible, because the more it cost the more they make. At taxpayer expense.

I wouldn't say they're wasting tax dollars with the "fancy project" at SWIC, if you're referring to the new Liberal Arts building in Belleville. It's actually a very good investment because they've now opened a new theater for the film and theatre students to have for themselves, including a studio with fresh equipment they're planning to use for their new fall classes in Mass Communication such as radio and television broadcasting, news broadcasting, etc. It's really making the college better and I hope they start working on the Red Bud campus 'cause it's a dump.

Talking about the new walking trail with the brick banner holders every 100 feet, and the conrete & brick benches leading from the buildings. Could have accomplished the same things for a lot less.

Ittner's motto has always been the more it cost, the more they make.

So happy we are getting a new gym! Now if we could just utilize the new concession stands for all RBHS sporting events, rather than just football, would be nice! Someone could have made a lot of $$$ this week, just selling hot chocolate!

fellow parents-how about organizing ourselves a Booster Club that handles snack stands, etc for events that are not currently benefiting from such things?

'good' makes an accurate observation about a facility not being used.

How about a few of the parents contacting the AD/Coaches/Principal and start this.

How about the AD/Coaches/Principal contact the parents/teachers/sports groups/scholl clubs to do this? Why do the parents have to initiate this? The AD/Coaches/principal & teachers get a salary - the parents don't. Why couldn't the AD/Coaches/Principal/teachers/ parents/kids take turns working the stands too? Sports teams and school clubs could earn a little extra $$ this way too. Maybe then the public wouldn't have to deal with so many fundraisers.

"Booster" defined as An enthusiastic promoter, as of a sports team or school.

This is how Booster Clubs work-the parents do things for the kids.

Fundraisers, providing meals when traveling, provide upgrades to various items-uniforms, band instruments, resources of types... Go to O'Fallon, Belleville, Althoff, Chester, Columbia, colleges... that is how it works. Similar to the local Swim Team, Muskets, RBAA. ;)

It is not called the 'Help the Coach or AD Club'.

Would you truly prefer our principal/teachers working events after an 8 hour day instead of focusing on their administration duties and classes such as grading/recording scores? This gets into overtime and union regs.

Do we realize how lucky we are? Our other local public schools are laying off and we are building new facilities out of savings.

The parochial schools raised over $ 160,000 in auctions. They do not receive tax dollars. That is real fundraising and Boostership.

Some good points, but...parents work 8hr days too, and good parents put a lot of time in after work parenting, and attending school functions and they dont get paid overtime! It's called COMMITMENT and teachers need to realize that when they go into that vocation! They get a pretty good salary the way it is and months of paid vacation! Just sayin.

You are correct, the definition of Booster is ...."Booster" defined as An enthusiastic promoter, as of a sports team or school. It says enthusiastic promoter, not enthusiastic parent. I'm not saying that the teachers/AD/Principal and staff should do everything, but why do some of them think they are above doing anything? Why is it all the parents responsibility? The majority of parents work an 8 hour day, some longer. Some of those jobs are very physical. They still manage to come to school events and help without complaining about getting overtime or if it is against their union reg. Why can't everyone help instead of just the parents who work 8 hours or more Year Round.

because the kid is mine, not the teachers is my response to "why is it all the parents responsibility?'. MY family, my responsibility.

most teachers have their own kids. what if your boss told you "you have worked your 40 hours a week. now you will work 2 nights a week for free, therefore you do not get to see your kids/husbands/freinds/attend meetings or school/church two nights a week for practice and then on competition days and weekends you have to travel with the team and miss more time-for NO pay.

like us=the teachers should get paid for their overtime.
teacher 365 day salaries are set and reflect to include the excess hours when kids are not in the classroom-grading, setting up projects, their own continuing education. that is how 95% of the US public school sysems are set up.

'manage to come to school events'. wow, we are on different pages. i consider that a luxury and a privilege and i want my kids to know we are there supporting them.

working extra hours, donating to the community, providing extra for my/our kids-these are privileges.
