31 years of service to his country and family and he dies in that cesspool country. What a tragic loss. God bless this family.

Colonel Butler was a true professional, supportive to his troops, and just a really nice man to have known. The country lost a good man! My sympathies go out to his family.

My family will miss Mike immensely. His heart was pure and his courage strong, we are comforted in knowing that he left us doing exactly what he loved doing.

I worked for Col Butler and deployed with him more than once...he was a great man and a born leader. He will be missed by many who worked with him and knew him. I wish his family the very best and will pray for them.

Michael was my mother's First Cousin she would always tell me stories about growing up in a house of 21 kids. So, whenmy mom received the news it was like losing a Brother and an Uncle.

Uncle Mike was alwaystrying to get me to go to OCS. I spent 12 years in the Army National Guard. He always said the millitary could use more good Black officers.

The same could be said when he retired. I will try to keep how I am feeling poltically out of this post and just say thank you to everyone for your well wishes to our family.

We appreciate all of the wonderful things that you all have to say about Uncle Michael.

Mike and I worked for Col Bill Liquori at Langley AFB. I also served with Mike in Turkey. Mike was a wonderful friend and a great officer. He was proud of being from Omaha and of attending the Air Force Academy. He loved his family and our country. I last saw Mike at our Gunter NCOA graduation before he retired. I introduced him as a war hero. He is now and will forever be a great American hero who gave his life for freedom. God bless Joanne and the boys and all those who loved him. Col John Bowley, USAF
