I was in the Air Force stationed at the (then) Air Force Station in 1962-1963. It is presently a prison I understand. I'm wondering if anyone from that era remembers the NCO club up there? www.rvwithus.com

I was stationed there from 1967-1968. It was my second assignment after being stationed in San Pedro for a year. And yes, I do remember the NCO club very well. I turned 21 during the time I was there and spent more than a few nights in that club.
I too, had heard that it had been converted to a correctional facility for first time offenders. I was told it was one of those "boot camp" types where they tried to reform teenagers before they got into more serious trouble and got sent to a state penitentiary. My dad was stationed there twice. The first time around 1959-1962 and then again just before he retired in 1975/76.

He was an electronic counter, counter technician...(watched for airplanes on the radar under the bubble among other things.

My parents still live in the area.

I grew up mostly in Coos Bay, through my college years.. I loved it there as well. I'd be living there now if there were any sort of employment in the area beside the indian casinos.

I was stationed there from April 1956 to February 1960. Met and married my wife there in 1959. Had many many good times at the NCO Club and Fran's Tavern in Coos Bay. Roy Scheider, the recently deceased actor was stationed there at that time.

Fran's Tavern was there clear up into at least the late 70s, early 80s as I recall.

You were stationed there at the same time as my dad. He was a radar jockey. My parents still live in the area.

There were only about 120 men there at the time and as I worked in Personnel I knew most of their names. What is your Dad's name? When was he there? We moved back to Coos Bay in 1999. Left last year and now reside in Arizona.

This is going to sound nuts but I have an idiot following me from time to time on Topix who makes my life miserable so I am reluctant to give a last name.

However, his first and middle names are "Glenn Joseph" if that helps. Stands about 5' 8" and was into reading a lot of science fiction books and photography.

I think he was stationed there from 1958 or 59 through early 61 after which he received orders for Canada.

He was stationed there again for his last duty station before retirement in 1975 or 76.

No. North Bend was my first and last duty assignment in Air Defense Command. I retired in 1975 also. I certainly understand your reluctance to give out his last name. The frrst and middle names don't sound familiar to me.

With the exception of a couple of tours in Alaska, my dad was stationed up and down the west coast. We lived at Edwards for 4 years from 69-70 but he actually worked at the radar site out in Boron. Also stationed at Klamath, CA and Moses Lake (Larson AFB), Washington.

I spent a year at Shemya AFB, Alaska in 1969 and then 6 years at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska where I retired in December 1975. Both assignments were with Security Service.

Daily Horoscope for December 3

Sagittarius

You're in rather a downbeat mood, Sagittarius, and you definitely need cheering up. Unfortunately, it's heavy weather at the moment, as Mars slows and the cosmos rather disturbed, but later in the month is wonderful for you. Money problems are particularly difficult to deal with right now, because you can't help worrying about them. Now that prevents you seeing the best course of action to solve them. Relax, even miserable moods soon pass.
