What's up with road paint these days. Reed City's paint job didn't last 6 mos. and is now barely visible. Are we now buying it from China cheap so we can do it over again twice a year...or is it the environmental wacko crowd that made the manufacturers reformulate it because they're afraid little Johnnie might eat a paint chip while playing in the middle of Chestnut St. In any event, the next time they paint downtown Reed somebody a tape measure and make the center left turn lane the proper width instead of wider than the driving lanes.

well i think this goes deeper than just RC's idea of a quick fix. I am only guessing mind you. But I remember several times last year where an elderly lady was going right down main street in her motorized chair. putting herself in great danger to do so. So why was she? My best guess is because most of the sidewalks along main st. are not wheel chair friendly. they do not slope down to meet the cross roads, making it nearly impossable and dangerous for someone in a wheel chair to take a nice stroll through town. Leaving the main road the only solution. And in cheap Reed City fashion, instead of fixing the side walk issue to be user friendly. They decided to narrow the road allowing for a wide enough access on both sides for say a person in a wheel chair to travel down the main road. This is my guess. And why would they do that, to save money of course! Why would they use cheap paint? Because they intend on getting a negative response from the general public, and switch it back to normal this spring or summer. Meaning the only thing they would have to do is remove whats left of the cheap paint. The side walk issue gets buried for awhile and everyone is happy. Reed City quit being so damn cheap! Fix the sidewalks so no more elderly get run over on main st. Yes i did say no more because it wouldn't be the first time. Through some nice lighting while your at it. You can spend all that money on a display building, you should be able to fix some sidewalks.

hopefully you dont try to raise our taxes in the process. you already charge at least four times a fair amount on property taxes,on average of $30 per month for waste water disposal per house, not to mention the taxes thrown in for the new water facility that was suppose to drop that amount, oops didn't mean to break someones nest egg. Hopefully an eye brow or two gets raised on the why's. Quit stealing from your citizens, wake up can you not see that every town around us is growing, getting prettier and happier while Reed city sinks into the slums covered by gray skies. pathetic comes to mind.

I don't know about the wheelchair thing but I do know that motorized wheelchairs do not belong on Chestnut street with auto traffic in a narrow's a tragedy waiting to happen. People driving through town today are confused about whether there's a left turn lane and where it is. I don't think the paint situation is a purposeful act by the city because I see poor paint all over the just doesn't last. Can better, longer lasting paint be purchased? I think so.

They did the right thing by eliminating the signal at Upton and simplifying the signal at Church now I hope they don't cheap out again with the repaint and measure lane width properly for cars, not wheelchairs.

The depot building boondoggle is another topic altogether. Suffice to say that Reed City is run in a regressive manner by the good old boys club and it's sad to see a town like Evart working so hard to develop economically while Reed City with the advantage of a Freeway exit works in the opposite direction and stagnates.

I agree on a good part of what you are saying abranger. My hat is off to Evart for all there trials and over coming them throughout the years. In my personal opinion, I think Reed city should relinquish their rights as county seat and turn it over to Evart. clearly they are making the right decisions for this county and their city. Roads are nicer, more new business, best fireworks in the county. several counties for that matter. why aren't Reed Cities meat hooks getting ripped out of the controlling portion of this county. Pull the county seat, move the records dept., move the court house ect. Strip everything away from RC thats been allowing them to seppress everything to this point. I mean really what could it possibly hurt. I know it sounds a little extreme and it would be a difficult task. But what is the other option really. sit back and continue to bitch about it for another 20 years. I think moving everything wouldn't take that long and we would have something to show for it. PROGRESS!
