This is tragic. My heart really goes out to the Borrman's.

Why are our first responders such sissies? Please honor the Borrman dead & living by getting these people out of the water. If passers-by tried to save them by jumping into the water, can't the Coast Guard? I have never done the SCUBA, but can't you cover up with a wet suit so you don't get too exposed like those 3 or 4 hero citizens?

I remember in the 80's coming home from Redwood Crew practice & finding out that I had just spent the afternoon on and in the Corte Madera Creek with something like a 600,000+ gallon raw sewage leak. When the authorities put an advisory on any creek activity, we were all pretty shocked to find that our coach didn't care & we spent the rest of the week practicing on the water.

It is only 5 feet deep - please get the dead out of the water.

Why don't you smear a SCUBA mouthpiece with a turd and give yourself a dirty Sanchez.

A wet suit, by definition, is a wet suit. That means that it will not be protection against anything but light abrasions and hypothermia in cooler water.

At the least, the divers would need a sealed dry suit and something like a surface supplied Kirby Morgan "band" mask diving rig. Evidently, there's no reason for that much technical diving to be done on the wreck other than to secure the wreck carefully with a sling and raise it the whole thing for removing the bodies and investigating the crash.
