Good. Let's have them sniff everyone's crotch and shoes as they board a plane.

I actually thought they use dolphins for this already.
Ahhh, I have never like the idea of animals used in battle. Does anyone remember what happened to all those dogs who fought in wartime? They were left behind.
Yes, bash me for this I'm sure. Beast of burden and all. I make no apologies for my love of animals.

They have actually been training seals and dolphins for decades in Point Loma Ca., I worked for the Navy there and saw the training first hand and also saw how the training was used to save lives. Two fishing boats collided in the harbor just outside the navy base in Point Loma and two men went over board. The navy was conducting training with a dolphin. The dolphin dove down, brought the unconscious men to the surface, allowing the trainer to get them out of the water and save their lives.

What happens if these trained sea lions see their mates beached on a dock_are they distracted_or aren't they allowed to have mates?

To the best of my knowledge, they are kept in a group pen down at the waterfront, They are well cared for, fed a well balanced diet, and trained to assist the military in their operations. They do not have mates outside of the pen.

It is a training issue. A similar situation would be if someone tried feeding or offering a mate for a police dog on the chase.

Well the other option is to send in your sons and daughter in and HOPE they dont mess up.

...Those that have the courage to join in the first place versus losers that sit around and work at the local fast food joints for a living and complain about it.

In San Diego, where they train them, they feed them very well and the left overs are taken to a wolf sanctuary in the mountains east of San Diego. They have a team of veterinarians who look after the seals and dolphins. I was fortunate enough to work on the facilities and saw the seals and dolphins being trained and well taken care of.

Any chance of double agents? I mean can you trust a sea lion?

That's interesting, glad to hear they can be used in a good way. I was just thinking along the lines where animals get tossed aside like old shoes afterwards. Glad to see that the Navy is caring for them and not just using them up.
Thanks for the info Hippie!

With practice you can see they're lying.

Your welcome. They are continuously looking for better ways to take care of the dolphins and seals. When one dies, for what ever reason, they do an autopsy to determine the cause and fiind ways to treat the animals better. I was very impressed with their dedication to the dolphins and seals.

Fake mines are not really too much of a problem.

Do they have mates INSIDE the pen? The reason I ask, is because I was wondering not only about distractions, but also pregnancy.I thought they might be fixed?

I was referring to training time, not actual work time. Also, I was wondering about pregnancy or if they're fixed?

I am not sure of that, I was fortunate enough to spend a great deal of time in the facility, maintaining the building services. I had plenty of opportunities to talk to the staff, but I never thought to ask that question. I do know that they were not segregated, so there might be some hanky panky going on.
