In light of the shooting of 17-year-old unarmed Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fl., by a neighborhood watch captain in what he claimed was self-defense, national attention has been given to community safety and the relationships between the individual captains and their communities.

These “Neighborhood Watch” groups are just an excuse for people to spy on each other. I have seen want-to-be cops using these groups because they want power over their neighbors or to promote their “morality” by reporting gays, swingers, and pot smokers as potential terrorists. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS)“see something, say something” program encourages people to spy on their neighbors.
