I recently bought a pair of boots that were on sale. in the store, i saw that they were possibly worn once but since i really liked them, i thought i would buy them for the 50 bucks. two mintues into wearing them at home, i realized one foot was tighter than the other. so i took them back to get my money back. NOPE! i was told that i could not get my money back because the shoes were worn and that they just do NOT take back worn shoes. obviously i bought them worn and if i'd known that this was their policy, i would NEVER have bought ANY shoes from this stupid place. i bet the girls that work there wore the shoes and put them back in the box.... I too am now like the other women who posted here; stuck with shoes they dont want and $60+ poorer. Don't shop at stupid Cathy Jean.

Wow, I only stumbled upon this because I'm looking for a number to contact to see if I can find a pair of boots that I can't seem to find in any stores in my area. I also wanted to share with corporate that the 3 sales associates I encountered were more than helpful in my quest so far. I haven't actually bought the boots yet so if I do ever get them I'll be careful to wear them on carpet for a couple of hours to get a feel for them in case they are as bad as everyone says but I was beyond impressed with the help I got today.

Yes! i completely agree with this! i was working for Cathy Jean for a year as a Co-manager and never received my promised health benefits that I was supposed to receive after 90 days. When I would call the office in regard to my benefits there excuse was always that they never "received" my paperwork! i faxed the paperwork in as well as mailing it in multiple times. I have had to help countless angry customers and was unable to satisfy them because of the company's policy's and procedures.

My daughter worked at Cathy Jean for awhile. She was told that she would make a 10% commission in addition to an hourly rate.

After her first paycheck, she was told that she had to sell at least $85 per hour to earn a commission.

Then she was told that the first $85 per hour DOESN"T COUNT toward commission. So if you sell $100 per hour, you get 10% of the $15 - or $1.50 per hour extra. WOOO HOO.

And finally, after being told this was a commission paying job, she was told that if you're hired between November 15th and January 1st, YOU DON"T EARN COMMISSIONS AT ALL!!!!!! She was hired November 17th, told she was eligible for commissions, and then jerked around.

This dumb ass company with its crappy shoes should be ashamed of itself for luring girls in with promises of commissions that they clearly have no intention of paying.

Jonah are you kidding? In this economy (or any for that matter), you actually expect women to spend $60 for a "few nights" of fun?
No wonder Cathy Jean has such a bad name.

As far as bad experiences people have had in stores I feel really bad. While not an excuse, as a company we tend to hire High School age sales girls. This may only be their first or second job so while not a seasoned sales person you should still recieve great customer service. As far as management goes there is no excuse. I've been in sales for years and years and so has all the upper management so outstanding service and going the extra mile is definately something I pride myself and the staff on.
I hope women of all ages continue to shop at Cathy Jean because it is a great store and you can always find something fun cute and affordable there!!

My daughter just quit the chandler AZ store after 3 weeks. From the emotional abuse and as listed above, forced to clock out before shift finished. She got her last check, but when calling to ask for corporate # to try to find out about hours that were incorrect, was told they are not allowed to give out corporate information. Is this LEGAL?? She was told to talk to the Manager of the store she worked. THE ONE WHERE THEY were emotionally abusive???? Are you kidding? What are you to do? There are unethical practices on every level here. I am shocked this company has not been shut down, completely. Maybe the IRS would be interested, and the labor boards.(AZ is a right to work state so they wouldnt do much, but CA there could be some help!) Good luck girls. I wish my daughter read these posts before ever stepping foot in the store.

I just purchased a pair of black high heel shoes at their store in Glendale, AZ. I was aware of the return policy but in my case, the shoes were defective in that the first night I wore them out they turned my feet, toes and toenails BLACK. It was like the dye had come off onto my feet and even after I tried washing it off it was still visible. So, I returned them within their 4-day policy but they stated that since I had worn them they would not return my money. The manager (lady) was quite rude and even threatened to call the mall security to escort me out as I was quite upset! I will NEVER shop at Cathy Jean's again. Their customer service is the worst that I have ever encountered.

Cathy Shoes sucks. WE have never been treated so badly, or threatened the way we were at Cathys. When trying to return defective shoes, they refused to take them back or exchange them. THe dye came off on my feet, and was clesr it was a poorly made shoe. The manager told me " I shouldn't have worn them out of the house". When we were leaving we were telling other customers not to shop there. the manager came running up and threatened to call security, we left with a bad taste for cathy Jean shoes. DO NOT SHOP THERE!!!!!!

Totally agree with everyone. I did some checking on this company on the web and at the Better Business Bureau after trying to return some shoes tonight. The receipt says that you can return shoes within 10 days and today was the 10th day. I was told tonight that the day that I bought the shoes was Day 1 and that the following day was Day 2 etc. which means that under their screwy accounting, yesterday was Day 10. Anyway, after reading a little of this forum, it is obvious that many people have experienced the same things yet when I checked on the Better Business Bureau site for some of the stores, there was only 1 complaint registered for most stores. So, I'm asking all of you future and past readers of this site to make sure you register your complaints with the BBB. It's the only way to make the state agencies are aware of what is going on and if they get enough complaints they can hopefully do something about this company. Also, posting something on your facebook pages wouldn't hurt either. Warn all your friends about shopping there. I am also hoping the economy brings this company down too.

wow horrible things have been said not one good review....

i hope that everyone can somehow change their mind about this company. i also noticed that all the bad reviews (most) come from arizona and out side of Cali. Im just glad they dont make my size so i wont have to deal with these HOORRRIBBLLLEEE shoes. lol..

I bought a pair of sandals yesterday on Aug 1 2010 from Cathy Jean store at Fashion Island, Newport Beach, CA. The bottom of sandals was already dirty and looked worn. I asked the sales girl 'vivienne Nguyen and she said it's not worn Judy little dirty from store. I asked for a different pair but she said they don't have. Since I liked them, I just bought them.
Today I went to work wearing my new sandals... My feet started killing me in 10 mins. I am IT project manager sons sitting in my office. Had to come home during my lunch time to change my sandals. In the evening (less than 24 hrs later), I went to the FI store to return the sandals. Oh My God... It was customer's nightmare. The store manager KATHY TRAN was unprofessional, rude and ridiculous. She said she can't help
me at all because the sandals look worn. I wore them for less than 2 hours. They were already dirty too.'vivienne came and wasn't even making an eye contact with me. She said the sandals were little dirty not worn. Ridiculous. The worst store ever. Don't buy from them. They humiliate the customers and treat them horribly b

Your letter hit the nail on the head, I also live in Arizona and i tell you, from the service that I recived from the Arrowhead Towne Center Mall, i would rather walk bare foot than ever have to step foot in Cathy Jean Shoes ever again. Not only was the Sales associate rude but I can see where she got it from, the Manager was even worst. The fact that they were more concerned about their jobs and being fired, instead of serviceing a customer that not only got sold defective shoes but quoting their return policy that was not listed their "receipt" was the worst service i have ever experience. I myself have worked in the customer service field for over 20 years and would never treat customers that way. Cathy Jean as a long ways to go to be successful, i hope the just go out of business and be done with it.

I don't understand how much people complain about a return policy. If it says 10 DAYS UNWORN that's what it means. It's common sense, and not only that but these are shoes were talking about they DO give out just like everything else. Honestly, people, your the ones that buy it... no ones forcing you to. For example I shop at forever21 and sometimes I come home with small holes in my items but I know that its NO REFUNDS, so just take a moment to READ before you buy!

Maybe instead of getting angry at a "dumbass company" you should teach your daughter to read the paperwork she signs when hired explaining the commission. Just an idea.

I can confirm all of the shadiness occurring at CJ. The people that work there any length of time are the abuse victims type. Everyone else leaves in a short amount of time because of everything described above. They do have some shoes made in Brazil, but that is because Brazil is a third world country, and it is cheap to do it there. Most are made in China. They were supposed to have computers in their stores 10 years ago, but Bud could never pull the trigger because he would rather spend the money on personal property and dodging legal challenges. It's a "Catch me if you can" mentality. It looks like nothing has changed there in the last 10 years.
