Full story: El Paso Times

Microsoft Corp. said Thursday that prices for the Windows 7 computer operating system are largely in line with those for Vista, and that people who buy PCs before the new system goes on sale in October will get free upgrades.

Maybe Windows 7 will be alright. Has anyone used the Beta?

I've used Windows 7 for a while now and it works fine. I don't think it's worth paying for an upgrade if you have Vista or XP, especially if you're like me and use your PC for fun (Web/email/music). There is nothing groundbreaking in Windows 7 to want to make me run to the store and buy an update. My 2cents.

If selling 20 million Vista's in the first month...
beating 2-year "200 million target" by getting 350 million...
and having like 400 million now...
prolly 450 million by the time Win 7 comes out (minus those who switched to Win 7 beta)...

means..."a bad reception"...

I wonder what a "good reception" is supposed to be?
I suppose a REAL manopoly means .999 copies/exising PC! MS failed at that and they are so disappointed now! Boobhoo!

it's pretty good, loads quickly, doesnt use much memory.

some of the functions you're used to though, i.e. taskbar have changed, they call those things "retro".

there's new ways opening programs, multitasking. it's ok, but someday they will change it all over again.

I've been using Win7 Release Candidate since it came out in May. Pretty stable, and much more improved over Vista. Been having some "Page Not Found" errors when browsing using Firefox, but perhaps that's an issue for Mozilla to address, since I dont seem to duplicate those errors using Internet Explorer. The RC is good until March 1, 2010, at which time it'll start random shutdowns. By June 1, 2010, RC will no longer work. I'll definitely get the final version of Win7.

When do you have to "activate" it by to get it good until March?

I believe you have three days to activate Win7 RC after it is installed. After which, you have until March 1, 2010 before the OS starts to shut down every two hours. On June 1, 2010, Win7 RC will no longer work.

Windows should pay back anyone who has Vista.

How can you put out such a POS and not feel guilty about it?
If an auto maker made a car this terrible the outcry would be horrendous.

I've got 7 running on a laptop. And lets be honest, it's not the POS Vista is but it's sure not going to make me cough up 300 bones, when XP is running just fine.

Daily Horoscope for December 2

Virgo

The Gemini Full Moon places the spotlight on your career and reputation; most Virgos are very discriminating and should have nothing but good coming their way during this time. However, many of you will be thrown a curve or two, so be prepared to meet the challenge. Your private life may be disturbed as the Moon shines her light on your public life... don't be afraid to tell them that your personal life is none of their business.
