I appall Sharon Harris' remark that Mike Patterson will be allowed their support "so he can go and take care of a personal situation". DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHOULD NEVER BE A 'PERSONAL SITUATION'! For too many years people have turned a blind eye when it came to violence against women. I am not stating that Mr. Petterson is guilty yet far from it. I was a victim of domestic violence back in 1982 when it truly was a “personal situation.” I saw it all around me: if a women called the police because of such violence, little to nothing was done except for the additional beating once you where alone again with him. Even family members, friends and coworkers often turned a blind eye rationalizing that it wasn’t any of their business. Allegations or suspensions of violence against any person needs to be very ones concern and not a personal situations! In addition, her ‘reaction’ was like that of a sister rather than as a representative from the city of Redmond. Representatives from the city of Redmond, like Ms. Harris, should support the concept of finding the truth to the matter and concerns should be focused on the good of it’s people including Mike Patterson’s wife and the child involved.

In this Country we are still innocent until proven guilty. It should be the same in Redmond, OR. I have also been the victim of Domestic Violence assaults in the past. However, I cannot turn "a blind eye" to the fact that although men should not beat on women, a women has no legal right to attack a man (and think that it would be allowed in our court system). I believe that we as Redmond citizens should not be pointing a finger (as if we personally dont have any junk in our trunk)of accusation, but instead should be advocating reconsiliation. Remember, another marriage, family, and career is in jeapardy. Public and appointed officials are not any more perfect than another, they do in fact hold a position that is more likely to be critisized and publisized than many others.(Some just hide it better)
I hope that Mr. Patterson would return as our City Manager as he has taken our City to greater heights and modernization. Thank you City Manager for your service to our Community and to our City Council for standing and supporting, rightly so, for our Leadership. This is not the time to make too many major changes leaving our City without the talent and diligence it will need to move on through our near depression.
