That corner is the most dangerous corner in Redlands. Last year there were three accidents on that corner within a six month period. A full size pick up truck landed on the lawn of the house on the corner in one of the accidents. That corner needs a left turn light. Drivers get impatient with other drivers making left hand turns because they don't want to wait the few seconds and the next thing you know, we have an accident such as the one Monday. I hope the young man makes it. Please get a left turn light on that corner.

I remember when traffic signals were added to two intersections on Tennessee Street, just north of where this accident happened. To this day I think it was a waste of money adding traffic signals to those intersections because they don't seem any safer than when they just had stop signs. The intersection of San Mateo and Brookside on the other hand desperately needs turn signals added to it. In all the 24 years I've lived in Redlands, that intersection has gone without a turn signal and that's just wrong. In fact, I would be tempted to say that it borders on criminal negligence.

I haven't read an update since this article, I'm praying for full recovery for this young man. As a parent and grandparent it hurts to read stories like this.

I happen to know the victim and I just want to say that he is doing better but is still in critical condition. He has been at Loma Linda Hospital since Monday morning and will continue to be in ICU for a while. He broke both legs and right wrist. He also has internal bleeding. He is now stabilized but has had to undergo a few surgeries in the past few days. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

You can also help out by going to the American Red Cross and donating blood under his name, Steven Sumlar.

I am guessing that you mean the intersections at Tennessee @ Park and again @ State. I believe those were put in due to the closing off of New York. Not so much as to make the intersections "safer" but more for traffic flow.

I believe ESRI flipped the bill for those intersections.

My prayers are with the motorcyclist.

And the other driver pulling the left turn wasn't ticketed? If a tc occurs like this and the driver at fault is not ticketed by the police, they apparently know that this intersection presents a hazardous situation to drivers. "RS", obviously the City should have left NY Street alone and required ESRI to participate in mitigating actual traffic problems in the City instead of installing a couple of signals "in exchange" for giving away a public street to a private business entity. New Motto: "Redlands, the City that Doesn't Work" (for the residents and motoring public). P.S. Tried to warn you that the new signal timing is also not in the best interest of the motoring public. Who ever is in charge of the traffic signals (nobody?) better take another look instead of just leaving it up to a consultant! Maybe if you guys at the City did your jobs instead of looking to a consultant for all the answers, fewer people would be getting hurt on public streets.

Rich, you might want to deliver that brick personally to Rosemary, since Tom has been sent a packin' by Martinez. Remember, bricks is love (you might also want to ask her about an infamous Ontario "consultant" that goes by your (first) namesake that always took full advantage of public sector incompetence for his own financial gain.

Now that is a completely bogus statement.

The installation of the two traffic signals is a result of ESRI mitigating the traffic that is no longer flowing down NY.

Tell us Steve, what do you know of traffic signal timing? You tried to warn me? Oh please. Always looking to pick a fight.

Tom took the Golden Handshake. But since you like fooling people into believing you are in the KNOW, then tell us WHY he took the GH. Tom made it very clear why he was taking the GH.

Tell us why, Steve.

Tell us Rich what do you know about signal timing? Nothing except what is on the consultant plans (that's getting into my realm of expertise). Tom got more of a Golden Shower than a handshake, and the whole private engineering and development community knows it. I wouldn't expect anything else from a Martinezite, such as yourself except the standard party line. When it starts to affect public health, safety and welfare, that's when the City's ineptitude crosses the line with me. P.S. I'm more of the KING than you will ever know when it comes to holding government accountable. You and your ts buddies get an "F" for failure to reasonably serve the public. I would have my sights set more on your function, or lack thereof, if I wasn't totally dissatisfied with the work of your fearful leader Martinez (a big fish). What's your excuse, too many furlough days (already) that you can't do a good (enough) job for the public? You are one sad sack. P.S. You'd better check with ESRI before you start spewing about the NY Street/ Traffic Signal Improvement trade-off. Or did you review the traffic study when they were vacating NY Street or getting their new building approved through the CEQA process? Assume and you make an ass out of u and me. I've made the effort and found-out for myself, because I don't believe anything that comes out of the propaganda from City Hall. You are an employee, so you are payed to propagate it. Propagate that brick, boy.

San Mateo and Brookside is a very dangerous intersection. I've seen many close calls due to people in the left turn lane attempting to turn before they know for sure it's clear. Also, the left turn light on San Mateo only allows for one car after the straight traffic is through and it requires already being partly in the intersection to get through it. There needs to be a left turn signal there. RS, this is not the place to be talking other topics with LSW. A man was seriously injured in the accident at the intersection I mentioned. Show some respect for that man. My heart goes out to the young man in that accident as I took car of a man for 15 years who had also been severly inured in a motorcycle accident so I know his sufferring. I pray for his safe recovery. God bless you sir.

Sorry Loco Resident that this accident had to happen, but this forum is also "open" to discuss how such accidents may be prevented in the future. I personally wish Steven well with his recovery and hope that other motorists will be more careful at this intersection in the future.

Thank you so much! Although I can't give blood due to health reasons, my mother will the next time she can give. I am praying for this young man, is there anything else he might need?(Magazines, a few dollars, cards, etc?)

Thank you. Unfortunately there are some very bad people on these forums who have absolutely no consideration for anyone but themselves. I hope the young man is getting better. Best wishes to him.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Gemini

Mercury will backtrack through your finances over the next few weeks, which isn't a very seasonal thought if you're already well aware that you've overspent this month. Be prepared to do some juggling or to seek expert advice if you're worried about how you're going to cope. You may be kept busy handling inheritance, tax or insurance matters, preparing investment analysis, and allocating funds for the repayment or collection of debts.
