He has no immediate plans to return to Redding.
But when he does, Larry Schmuhl will think twice about holding up his cardboard signs bearing his scrawled Christian messages: "Faith Hope & Love, God Bless Us!" and "Trusting in God, May God Bless you Also."
A Redding police officer March 8 wrote Schmuhl, a Nevada man with ties to the area, a $225 citation for soliciting.
His offense: Holding up those signs — made from Costco pizza boxes — while sitting on a decorative, brick wall near a ground utility access panel between Walmart and Office Depot on Dana Drive, the busy corridor right off Highway 44

"Man charged for solicitation proclaiming the Gospel at Redding Walmart"
"In a case sure to have local religious freedom advocates abuzz a man was charged by Redding California Police Department for holding a sign by the road in the Walmart area.
The sign did not ask for money, or state that he would work for food, but contained Bible verses which the man was charged for of all things soliciting"
