What happend to parenting your children? It seems to be a lost day to day function in a family. As a result you are coddleing a generation of "DO NOTHINGS" and making excuses for them. Unruly, rude, lazy, disrespectful, whiney ,self absorded brats is what they are. You expect the world to bend to their every want, need or desire and don't feel the need to teach them that in order to get something they must first work for it, earn it.What's worse? You send your children to school and expect their instructors to somehow transform your child into an academic genius. When that doesn't happen it is all the teachers fault. No, no it is not. Maybe the school can shoulder some of the blame but before you go pointing fingers and accusing have you bothered to sit down and help your child with homework? Do you read with him/her to help improve their reading skills which will also help improve overall grades in all other subjects? No? You don't do this? But you expect their grades to be good and for them to remain eligibile to participate in sports. Because sports is the reason you send your child to school, you want them on the court or field at all times good grades or not. Let's face it most of the children who compete in atheletics around here are NOT going to make a professionl career of it. You might want to work on molding them into productive memebers of society instead, not the next Dennis Rodman. I've seen some of these athelets both on and off the field of play and Rodman is a good example. Now I realize that this will strike a nerve with many folks who read it and I don't care. Because if you are offended you're probably one of the parents that I am talking about. I know you will get on this forum and declare that you are the greatest parent to ever grace the planet and maybe you are, I hope you are. Chances are though that the people who post in an uproar are exactly the people I am talking about. You let your kids run wild wherever you take them. You scream at the top of your lungs and threaten them but do nothing to correct their behavior. Or perhaps you ignore what they are doing
completely. There should be some discipline going on here, someone should put their foot down and demand correct behavior! I'm not talking about discipling the kids, I'm talking about putting the parents in their place. You made a conscience decision to become a parent. In making that decision you became responsible for the way your children behave. Step up and take hold of that responsibility, learn from your mistakes and don't make them again. I work to hard to have to support your future inmates and welfare recipients. Wake up people and take care of your children!

I agree with every word in your post 100%!!! I wish you would send this to the Editorial Page of every local newspaper in Southeastern Oklahoma. Maybe, just maybe, someone who reads it will start asking themselves; "How am I doing as a parent and what can I do to improve my parenting skills? " This would be a good seminar subject for parents if we could get enough of them interested. I know this may sound farfetched, but anything is worth trying to improve the respectability of our offspring! I thank God for the way my Parents raised me!!

Who cares if they have children or not!! The kids these days are out of touch with reality. You go to the store, and they will push you over just to get in before you do, you go to the laundry mat and the filth that comes out of there mouths makes you want to suds-n-duds them. They do as they please and to heck with any rules that are put in place. Now there are some kids that are reared properly, but they are few and far between. It is ashamed that you have to have eyes everywhere just to send someone to the store. So to sick and tired, I am sick and tired also, and to Thursday....wake up to the fact that you don't have to have children to notice that children are not reared the same as I was and yes I HAVE CHILDREN who get there ASS WHOOPED if they misbehave. I don't beat them but I do discipline them, I am not going to have a bunch of unruly kids in my house.

A video? That's what's wrong so many parents. You are always looking for someone else to do you job for you. Rather that take matters into your own hands you pull in outside sources to deal with whatever situation may come your way. Hands on parenting is what the kids of today need. They need to know that you will be there when they need you. But, they also need to know that when they mess up, and they will, you aren't going to simply sit them down and explain that they have done wrong and send them on their merry way. They need to know that you are in control (not them) and there will be punishments for the wrong things they do. They don't need a friend, they need rules, structure and discipline.
