Yikes!! I see what you mean. I read a little more on this site and it is scary. I've been away from this area of a long while. I'm afraid I had grown romantic. I mean there are some wonderful people in this area. But in terms of gay, it's really scary to read what people write. It must be terrible to be a teenager here and be surrounded by this atmosphere of hate and intolerance. And with a governor providing a horrible example.

"Mark" assuming you're not trolling you pretty much hit the nail on the head. That is why I want to meet some educated, like minded people in the area. Not looking to start a gay pride parade here but to let the community know that we have a right to be here as much as the ignorant misinformed do... I am not trying to be "in your face" about it but when someone asks about my (wife and kids)I am NOT going to come up with some bullshit story to appease the masses... Ciao

These small towns are all the same. Every one has to be the same, want the same things, like the same things. It's no wonder the young people leave as soon as they can, it's toxic here.

See, I play the part. I go to church even though I know it's all bull****, I'm a coward that way. Can't rock the boat or give them a reason to hate you. Because once you do they'll use it against you and in time create more lies, they go so far as believing the crap they make up. They feed on it, they really have nothing else.

It seems we may have a few more here than I thought. These are at least some who are willing to come forward and acknowledge their existence here. Think how many are scared to be found out and never deal with it, life is too short to let a bunch of inbred hillbillies define your existence. Thanks for the time to voice your opinion on this touchy subject...

Thanks, DLGAYGUY and guest for your comments. I just wanted to share that when I attended Talihina High School and took a PE class we had to take showers afterwards. It was at this time that several men from the community would come into the shower/ locker room and ogle us - every time. I didn't think anything about it at the time, but much later realized what they were thinking. Those were the pre-internet porn days so where else where they going to see young men's naked bodies? The turbulence seething just below the seemingly placid surface...

Interesting story Mark, but I think we are getting a little off topic. I was wanting to converse with like minded people in the local area and maybe make a few friends. Your High School antidote was interesting non the less.

As a gay male that lives in this town I know how hard it is to meet other gay men or women. Most are still very closeted or even married. I know of a few here in town. I wish it didn't have to be that way these days but it is here in this small town.

Email of Woodbridge: I totally understand. I recall a young man (this was like 30 years ago) who was supposedly found in bed with a man and then his name became locally synonymous with 'gay''faggot''homo' and so on. I can imagine it isn't much better today - pretending to be interested in the opposite sex and so on and so forth and the marriages in violation of one's basic nature. Well, at least there is positive news elsewhere in the USA and abroad, e.g., Holland and other European countries. I hope you have some good gay friends - at least people you can talk to and share. It's too much, I realize, to expect to live with a spouse as a gay couple and be accepted by the local community. Maybe in another 50 years?? Ironically, it seems that many Native Americans historically accepted homosexuals.

True mark. I have many gay friends it here here or nearby. I have plenty people in my life that I can share with. I'm thankful everyday. It will get better but not in these small towns though.
