Nothing new at all. I was a father involved in a baseball program about 10-11 years ago in Moore Twsp. The guy who was running the baseball program and his wife never had the money available from the candy that all of the kids sold. Basically they were stealing but the twsp never had enough gnads to have them prosecuted. That program has since gone to the crap house. This is something that has been going on for years in non profit organizations.

OMG-OMG-OMG!!! A woman caught stealing the funds of an organization!! What is this world coming to. A woman in a trusted position taking money for her own personal use. Such a unique event, have never heard of this type of thing before. Hope this will not start an epidemic! Excuse me have to return to my cave, been living there for the last 10 years.

Dirty little hands in everybody's Grants.....tsk tsk tsk. There is no such thing as "non-profit". Between inflated salaries for those at the top, demeaning the work of good volunteers, and the people that are "well connected", it is just a business..as usual.

Are there any "good" people left?? Nah, don't think so, if money is involved, there are greedy pigs, and I might say, probably one of those "Sunday go to church meeting bun types".

No wonder these will be a severe biotch slap pending.

Question....

Why did it take a new treasurer to come in to audit the books? If they have enough money that she could embezzle over $70K, why do they not have yearly audits?

I bet they will now!

Youth associations along with local townships, do NOT like spending 6500.00 a year to audit books, so they get a board of three (no names) to do it.. until they are forced to get a REAL accountant to audit.. also .. most non profits cant afford a REAL bookeeper or secretary.. its all volunteered so its hrd to keep the paperwork under control.. its sad though.. You cant trust anyone anymore...

this kind of stuff happens all week.. everyday for years.. you only know about the ones that make the MCALL and usually inaccurate to begin with..

Especially in local government... its teh saddest thing in the world.. its all about who you know..

that buys you the time to get away with it.. until a new bookeeper says they will not take the job without a PROPER AUDIT!

Exactly my point.! In our organization, we had monthly meetings and the treasurer had his minutes for accountability.

I'm sure that there local Accounting Firms that would do it for free or at a discounted cost as a donation which they could write-off.

I agree about having a yearly audit or monthly meetings for accountability. There have been numerous published cases of embezzlement over the years, you'd think these organizations would have learned something by now. Same for the perpetrators. These people end up getting caught. Stealing such large amounts of money is insane because the records will eventually expose the thief. So stupid.

This is by no means a surprise ... this goes on in a lot of youth and community organizations. When you have hundreds of thousands of dollars being audited and monitored by some well-meaning plumber or housewife whose only financial experience is deciding whether to pay cash or credit at the gas pump, you are going to have problems. When there is that much money at stake, a professional is needed.

you should be ashamed of yourself, stealing from children. when you are entrusted to money and funds for kids sporting activities, you take on a self awareness that the organization is counting on you to be honest. my wife and i for years ran a snack bar for soccer in catty and all the food was donated by the parents of kids playing, we spent countless hours setting up, serving and cleaning up, also making sure every penny went to the treasurer of the organization. we did this for our three kids, all of which played into high school, as well as the other kids in our neighborhood, to make sure the organization continued and was able to be self sufficient.it sickens me to think that this person could be so thoughtless of the children around her. i hope you are made an example of and punished appropriately, these kids counted on you and you used and abused that trust, it is a dam good thing i am not sitting in that judges chair when you come into court.
