I recently heard that the Red Bud Muskets youth football program is folding. What a shocker. If there won't be youth football in Red Bud, I guess we can start a soccer program.

I heard it, too. I heard they were merging with the Belleville Knights, so they could be more competitive.

No need to merge with anyone, Musket Football gets bigger every year, and has teams in playoffs every year. We are competitive!

So, my buddy's boy tells me he can't play football in Red Bud this year because they are sending all the 12, 13 & 14 year olds to play in Belleville, for the KNIGHTS.... Why is that?

I remember a time when all the kids in Red Bud could play youth football and it didn't matter how old you were. Now, it sounds like this is all true. Red Bud is a minor league system for those Knights.

I hope the Musket board got a good chunk of change from the Knights for sending them all their older kids.
WoW!

The muskets are doing well. They also had a record number of kids this year. Why do you suppose the need for the new field with the new concession stand. I heard that the older kids did not have enough for a team and after practice started some of the kids quit. But I didn't hear any word of merging with the knights. Maybe they told the dedicated kids who really wanted to play to go there to see if they could play. Typical, people spreading rumors that they are not sure about! And to What the Heck.... they have a soccor program at the Y if you don't like football.

WoW!
Red Bud didnt have enough kids to support a Juniors team due to some quiting. The play ups got sent back down and I suppose those that wanted to play moved to another team.

Play-ups?? WTF are they doing over there when they are playing kids UP!!!!???? I heard the league they play in fixed all that where you don't have young kids playing with older kids anymore.

Wow! My friend's kid is 12 - TWELVE - and I looked out on the league website and it says that 12 year olds play with either 11 year olds or the smaller 13 year old kids.

WHAT THE heck are they doing over there? playing against kids who are 14 and from what I hear, SOME 15 year olds! WOW!

How irresponsible. I will never let my kid play here. I would rather take him to Waterloo.

But, regardless. If they didn't have enough 14 yr olds for the big team, why can't the field a 12 & 13 yr old team?

Some BIG year for the Muskets. WOW!

Well play ups are only if they weigh to much...If you want your kid to be a running back then you play up because they'd be overweight in the group there suppose to play in. And have fun trying to find a team in Waterloo because I dont believe they have a team this year. They drew out of Tri County League.

The junior 13 and 14 year old team did not have enough kids to safely have a team. There were only about 12 players and the decision was made for the best interest of the kids. We have not merged with anyone... Other than that, the Muskets have 7 teams and are in the processing of building a new field and concesion stand that is top of the line. Come on down and check us out!!!

Waterloo, Columbia, Dupo, Nashville, & Pinckneyville formed their own league so they would not have to deal with teams like the Knights.

They got out of Tri-County because they got tired of all the crap Centreville & Cahokia gets by with every year. And by the way all 5 organizations numbers shot up as a result.
Hoping Red Bud will join us next year.

Columbia and Waterloo have STRONG youth football programs.
Since when does being or not being in Tri-County state your existence?
Tell that to ALL the quality southern IL organizations that are NOT in that JOKE of a league called Tri-County.
BTW, you guys might want to look at that Tri-County website for yourself and stop taking in all the bull-crap propaganda your Musket leaders are feeding you.
12 yr olds never "have" to play up. Yeah, if you are that worthless of a parent you would want your 12 yr old to play against the flunk-out 8th graders the knights have on their oldest team, go ahead and play him up.
Or, if your program is so strong, why do you have such a hard time finding your own 8th graders to play football? Why do you play your 6th & 7th graders up, and then wonder why they don't come back the next year, so you have to ruin yet another batch of 6th and 7th graders.
And, why would a 12 yr old have to go somewhere else to play? Do you not have Midgets OR juniors? Wow, that is sad. Talk about putting all of your eggs in one basket and then losing them both. Who was the idiot that made that decision, the Juniors head coach?
