So, here's the thing. As an escape from the world, we enjoy skateboarding. It's a fun activity, and a great exercise. No worse than riding a bike or playing football. And, we get so much shit from the community and police. Can't skate on the sidewalk.. yet, people can ride bikes on them. We do not damage anything. We are smart and careful about what we do. Someone should honestly invest in a decent skate park. That would solve so many problems. And, it would bring more people into our town.

That veterans memorial may not mean anything to you, but the men and women that was meant for are the only reason you live in a country where you can have your little skate parks and recreational areas for kids. So before you go bashing that memorial, go thank a soldier for giving you the opportunity to get on this website and talk crap. People like you piss me off no appreciation to those that make your day to day life possible.

Thanks for the "dumb kid" comment, but we are far from that. And, also, we do have jobs. We skate in our free time. But, more kids are going to want to skate in this town, and probably get in trouble for simply being on a board. I know we had one while back, but that was poorly made, and someone had destroyed it.. like people tend to do a lot in this town.

Most towns use a portion of their parks budget to fund skate parks, but not this town! this town would rather let kids roll houses on Halloween and let them sit in front of the Flash Market smoking cigarettes.

They moved the skate park because of all the damage and things it attracked. The building by the skate park had all the windows broken out, there where 2 air conditioning units stolen. Plus the police caught kids down there having sex selling drugs and a old man that lives down the street was caught hidden and watching the kids and masterbuying. Not to mention alot of kids not all but alot just caused trouble and didnt care what they did there so they ruined it for the rest of the kids.

ok for one, I am a in the military and am originally from Rector. I appreciate your support, but I am also a realist, and know for a fact that the memorial and visitor center, although a great idea is i a waste of tax dollars for the city. If we had people that were actually visiting it on a daily basis i would say different but the times i have been in town i have yet to see one vehicle up there. I am grateful that the town cares so much for those of us who are serving our great country but I also hate to see a waste of tax dollars when it could have gone for so much more. i am not saying we need a skate park but it wouldnt hurt to add something in town for the kids to go to instead of getting out and causing trouble, why not have a place for after school programs with tutoring and recreational activities, but that is just my opinion and just wanted to get that off my chest......

Do some homework and you will find part of the money for the Veterans Memorial was attained from a grant and the rest was given by donations.

I also have never seen a visitor at this memorial. I'm sure a few people went when it first opened but that's about it.

If you do t like by all means don't visit it. I you are so concerned about skateboarding move to a town that has that offered. Or maybe talk to the people of Rector with the Big Money and see if they will also donate to your cause and then you will see you are in the minority. Skateboarding may be a great sport but very few people do this and when they do its typically for a short period of their life. Post again in 5 years and tell me how much you skateboard.

We've been skating for 11 years, and even plan on it when we're 30. And, it would be for the next generation, also.
