i have a fine over $500, going 80+ in the 60. Can attending a traffic school help lower the fine or is the ticket fine absolute?

I got my first speeding ticket ever while driving thru Ashburn GA to TN at 11:30 pm on 8/14/09. Drove the speed limit thru all the construction areas like I was suppose to. Most of the speed limits were between 55 or 60. Finally, at that point there were no more cones, or signs stating we were still in a constructions area and the speed limit moved up to 65 then the last one to 70. When the officer pulled me over, he said that I was speeding in a 60 zone...I was shocked, and told him that it showed 70,he also stated that the speed limit signs are posted on both sides of the interstate, clearly that is a falsehood. After we got on our way, we noticed that there were several speed limit signs that had black bags that were half on them that showed 70, some were all covered. Just was wondering if this is one of the speed limit signs that I saw and that is how they are trapping everyone. Also I called the State Court of Turner County when I got home to FL on 8/17/09 and the girl told me that my fees were $282.00. Since I live in FL I decided I would just send them the payment by certified mail. To my surprise in the mail today, they sent the payment back and told me the fees were $422.00. Now what game are they playing now?

I got a ticket as well and never receive tickets. They target out of state people and it is a revenue making business. I am a granny driver and if anything only go 5 miles over as I am a school teacher that makes very little money. Someone has to do something to stop this as it is finacially destroying people. They have some special going on if you donate can goods they will reduce your ticket and take away your points.$454 to $318, but that is still a lot! I admire the good cause, but the whole illegal operation is wrong. I will have to starve myself for a month to pay for it! Watch out you out of state people as the Ashburn police are out to get us! It is sad to believe our country has come to this. The only people making comments on here to drive slower and it is our fault have not be caught unjustly or they are the police themselves.I hope 60 minutes or some type of news rats them out. It is hard to believe they can give an oath and sleep at night. Yes, I did see people broke down on the side of the road and no one to help them! I wonder why?!:)

Ashburn, ga. has speedtraps, bags over speedlimit signs and no construction. I have heard they gave 187,000 fines in the last few months.

whatever...i am a police officer in kentucky and i can't see the tag of the car in my lazer sights until i get behind them and initiate the stop...until then all i know and see is the speed the vehicle is driving. you all can avoid tickets by doing the speed limit.

I passed by Ashburn, Ga on the way back North on June 25, 2009 in the afternoon and saw the Work Zone signs. I would like to hear the truth from LawDog and Happy Girl, I saw no signs of work at all. We stopped in the town past Ashburn, Ga for and ask a business what was going on with the work zone signs and he told us the road work had been finished over 30 days ago but the signs were still up. The State of GA needs to investigate. I saw two people stopped for speeding, which I have no problem with that, how much was the fine? I business owner I was talking with said the fines that are being given out in Ashburn are between 500. to 1,750 sounds like a racket to me. Stop people for speeding, but make them pay for fines in a work zone when the work has end they are making thousands off this scam. For fair fines.

I-75 is being fixed in parts and not all at the same time. the same thing is on I-75 further south near valdosta, all of the road that is set to be repaired is marked off as a construction zone, even though some of it has not been started yet. it is marked that way to keep people from causing more damage that is all ready there. fines are set high as a deterent to speeding. so just drive the speed limit, whether you think it should be a construction or not, if it is marked as one...slow down.

I was doing the speed limit it was a fake construction zone. It took him a few minutes to pull me over as he looked a few licenses. Don't tell me you don't know this is going on. Everyone knows they are doing it in GA. Hopefully Kentucky is not a low, but it sounds like you probably are by your commet!

How did you get it thrown out? I want to know as well. I was going to go there, but it was a 8 hour drive and I am a busy school teacher. I know it is unjust and wrong. Good for you that you were close enough to drive back and stick up for yourself. We need to stop those crooks the police!

You can avoid unjustice by not targeting out of state people who can't afford the time or money to come back and fight the ticket. Mr. Kentucy Cop! Don't you have some tickets to write right now?
