<quoted text>Hi, my son got a speeding ticket last weekend in Turner Co. Iam not going to let this thing go. I am going to gather info and have some ideas on how to combat it.
My family and I were travelling through Turner County about ten years ago (well before the super speeder law) and we were in a pack of other drivers going about 15 over the posted limit in a construction zone. There were no workers present or I would have been going slower. Yes I know it's still illegal even if there are no workers present, but I just want to clarify that I would never speed around road workers. As we were going down the road in the pack a Turner County cop got behind the pack and turned his lights on. Everyone else maintained their speed but I slowed down so he chose me to get behind.(easy pickin's?) Long story short the ticket was in excess of $800.00. Remember this was TEN years ago! Of course I would expect to pay a fine when I am caught speeding, but the cost of that ticket was outrageous!
It is my belief that Turner County Ga is a corrupt part of Georgia, driver beware!!

That's right, you break the law and that makes Turner County corrupt.

Good Ole Turner. We are not GA residents.... but this is nearly as bad as Waldo Florida when it comes to outrageous fees.

My husband hasn't gotten a speeding ticket since his teens. I have him drive through GA because, I'm sorry.... Ga drivers are a bit nuts. There is constant tailgating and even when I'm in the slow lane they fly up on me and move over just before it seems like I'm going to get hit.

Long story short, he's driving a PRIUS.... just to put this in perspective... it's on ECO mode. He's doing maybe 80. I understand my husband was speeding, but he's okay with that speed and it kept us from getting rear ended. We top a hill and everyone is braking, he turns off cruise (AT 80) and lets his foot off the gas. Why do I know this? I watched him.

He sees the cop get off the shoulder, he moves to the middle lane. We play the "who's getting pulled over" game. First the trooper gets in the fast lane, then behind the car behind us, then moves to us. Pulls us over. I'm seriously thinking it's because we didn't have GA plates. We were in the middle of other cars and were NOT the last or first to exit the hill in that lane....

Says he clocked us via radar doing 90 miles an hour... in a Prius...... seriously? I bought the car for gas mileage, above 80 it goes to crap. Our "average speed" shown on the dash over the last 700 miles was 70.... so there is no way my husband was going a CONSTANT 90 through Ga.

My husband politely told the trooper that he was not, trooper asked for information and wrote us a ticket.

I'll give this county ONE thing... they sure do tickets FAST. Trooper comes back to our car, hands us a ticket, tells us he doesn't know how much it is and to call a number.

I check online, I see everything about a "super speeder " fee being assessed after being proven guilty. We switch so my husband can call the number on the back. The ticket? 20 over. The fine? 422 dollars. WHAT????

He asked the woman, is this INCLUDING THE S.S fee? NOPE! That's LATER, after you paid your ticket.

Now, we drive a lot. No where on this ticket, on road signs, on ANYTHING AT ALL is there a mention of said fee. Sure there is a statute number at the bottom, but who's really going to go home and look that up.

This fee is nothing but extortion. We were willing NOT to fight the 422, but to know that not only did the state, trooper and this woman all willingly HIDE the fact there was this fee is WRONG. Some may say she didn't but it took multiple questions to get the fee assessment amount and reason out of her. She only spoke in direct questions and never volunteered this information.

I know he shouldn't have done 80. However, he was NOT passing anyone, and was not moving in and out of lanes like I saw two or three "packs" as I like to call them did. This "fee" needs to be POSTED because if that tickets paid, you admit guilt.

We are hiring a lawyer because 1. The ticket is grossly exaggerated and 2. because of this fee. If we happen to get points removed, the lawyer will pay for himself in the long run.

BEWARE OF THIS COUNTY!

No one who works for the county, or the city for that matter, is obligated to inform you of state laws. Any comments, questions, concerns or remarks about the Super Speeder Law, need to be directed towards the State, I do believe their information was provided for you on the notification you received. If you people would just obey they speed limit, which is clearly posted all along the side of the interstate, then you wouldn't have to worry about being a victim of "extortion". I'm all for the Super Speeder Law. The additional $200.00 funds the victims as well as families affected by people such as your husband who refuse to abide traffic laws. Laws that are passed by the State of Georgia, not by the county/city employess. So the next time you or your husband receive a speeding ticket maybe you will think about that before you bash county employees. Or better yet, don't speed.

why dont you just keep your mouth shut? we dont need your 2 cents. what we need is for the [email protected] cops in ashburn to pull over the [email protected] georgia drivers who dont give a [email protected] about your state posted speed limits. i have driven in L.A., New York, and Houston and nobody holds a candle to how stupid and reckless people in georgia drive. people with georgia plates are free to go however [email protected] fast they want through ashburn on I75 because they know the douchebag cops are out to pull over people from florida that may not want to waste more of their time by trying to fight a bullsh!t ticket. It's a public forum jackass... if you don't want a response then don't post. No one needs to ask for my 2 cents, that's why I give ot for free :). But I get what you're saying... if you can't beat the reckless drivers then might as well join them right? When you do, you get tickets. You can't be pissed off as no one but yourself. The deputy wasn't driving your car, you were. Not only do Georgian's not care about the posted speed limit signs, it's quite clear that out of state drivers don't either. I just love how out of state drivers want to complain because "they were only targeted because of out state plates"... please, do you know how many people from Georgia get pulled over? My guess would be no. Maybe you should have stayed in the L.A., Houston and New York areas. Then you wouldn't be having this issue with people who post their opinions within a public forum.

i never said i was driving wrecklessly or speeding, and didnt get pulled over or ticketed for either. go blow a cop and let the people who got shanked by ashburn cops bitch in peace you [email protected] troll, ashburn is a shithole, with unconstitutional department policy....its a fact. you are a cop loving forum troll who has never been pulled over for some bullsh!t outside of your home state....its a fact. deal with it, and move on skippy. hpefully, next and every time you have to drive outside of your home state, an asshole local traffic cop will ticket you for some local equipment violations, unconstitutionally, and it will cost you hundreds of dollars that you could have best used elsewhere.

Was just driving thru on 75 last night and was definitely speeding trying to come back north. Lucky for me i didn't get stopped there but i did in Tennessee. Actually thanked the cop for doing his job and acknowledged i was speeding and he let me off with a warning. Close call as i was thankful for that a did the speed limit all the way home. Took a little longer but i made it in one piece

i'm a college student from macon and was driving on a gmc canyon with a friend and was pullinga trailer with two motorcycles. now this small truck is good on gas but can't pull that trailer for shit. for a week i made sure everything was good to go not only on the motorcycles for the track but also for the truck and trailer. on the way there my truck was barely able to do 70 and i was glad to see the speed limit slow down because i was going slow due to the trailer. well everything went well at the track and before i headed back i made sure everything was still good with the truck and trailer (i was so worried because its my first time pulling something and it has over 250,000 miles on it), everything was good. lights, oil and coolant were good. anyways as i'm driving it gets dark and a cop pulls me over almost immediatly and tells me that a brake light is out. we talked about it and i told him that i had just checked it so he says to just continue but with my hazards on so that other cars can see me and to take it slow.
then i get to turner county. i see lights pull out and speed through traffic to get to me? is that safer than what i'm doing? he catches up and gets sooooo close to my trailer that i'm pulling that i can see the bars separating the front from the back seat where he should be sitting. his blue lights weren't on yet and i realllyyyyy wanted to brake check him becuase he was that close and i freak out when people tailgate me. after following me so close for about 5 min, he finally turns on the lights and i pull over immediatly. i have friends who are cops and they always tell me how nervous they get when pulling someone over because you never know who is in there or what their intentions are; so i turn on the lights turn off the radio and put my hands on the wheel like they told me. i tell the cop that the other cop told me to ride with the hazards on and take it slow, but he still asks for my license and insurance and registration. 3 min later he comes back with two tickets. never said anything about my lights, doesn't even mention the other cop, just a thanks and here are your two tickets sir. ruined my day. oh and i'm a GA resident and a veteran even though i never waive that veteran ID around. stupid fat cop was probably mad becaue he had to be writing tickets instead of eating donuts. bald lazy eyed bastard

Dewayne Massey, I am not a spreader. I'm actually the guy going the speed limit or under. My theory is if your doing what's posted, your speeding. So... I am driving next to a corvette @ 68 mph, why? It looked funny with a donut spare tire on it, coming up on an exit and I see a unit waiting for spreaders. I'm safe right. As we pass the under the bridge and past the on ramp from that exit, I see the unit driving down the on ramp entering onto 75 NB. He pulls up behind the corvette" I think it was a 92 in hunter green, black top, hard to find now days. Anyways that guy is from lawrenceville ga. Officer moved from behind him to behind me, our rear quarter was next to the vetted front quarter. So I go around the vette as he slows down. Cop said I was doing 92mph! I lagged out loud, I was in a 2012 civic hybrid getting an average of 46. Mph. I had to get out because lD was in the trunk. I was respectable, polite, handed the ID over and got back in the car, He came back 5 min or so later and gave me a ticket, I was in shock!! We talked for a min about his car witch was the new badass charger, that thing is sick!! Well I had to tell him that I respected him and respect the badge but can't respect a faulty radar and that I would see him in court and that I am going to fight the ticket. When I got to my moms house I looked some things up and found out this place is speed trap capital of the US. What pisses me of now is that I feel I was taken advantage of because I have out of state tags. I was born in Georgia and hope to die in Georgia, I love it, I'm not bad mouthing anyone one for anything. The officer was polite and professional. What do you do in a situation like this, you see I'm not paying a dime. I have a good lawyer and plan on launching an investigation on the police department and the county clerks office. With all the money they make I'm sure they will need an IRS audit as well

That was not directed at Dwayne Massey. That was from the post block were I didn't delete all of it. I understand people speed and they deserve what they get, strait up. But what happens to me was way out of line and a bold face lie! Law dawg if your on here I could use an earful. I can't afford a lawyer or much less even to drive up there to fight it even though I got a hybrid. Lol with things the way they are now days I would be sketchy walking up to someone's window to accuse them of something they didn't do, might not work out well for them. I truely believe that the officer was doing his job maybe and that it was a lidar mishap. They do happen. But if it was a dishonest action and he did it without giving a shit, I would be extremely disappointed that he is allowed to ware a badge. I don't trust cops, all the ones I know here are dirty and one in Ga raped my sister. WHAT TO DO!

These officers are good men and woman and diserve respect. The officer that pulled me was cool as shit. As I'm sure most of them are but I do know that machines don't work 100% of the time, o well... I look forward to seeing Officer Caton on my court date, Hell, maybe do lunch and a ride along. It would be fun to see what they go through in the civilian sector. To all you officers out there and on here, be blessed and be safe:) O and what do you think I should do LAW DOG? I think it's funny when you get the folks riled up.

What about you 2cents, any advise? II really can't believe that this officer was dirty or trying to pull a fast one. He just didn't seem shady or give of that vibe. Being a retired navy Vet with11 years in, you can spot the shitbags real easy, this officer was sharp, all the way round. I didn't come on this sight to bad mouth, I'm just trying to see if there is anybody on here that might have some advice.
