The poverty rate for Erie children under 18 was measured at 47.3 percent in 2011, up from 43.1 percent in 2010.

"It's very disconcerting," says Erie schools Superintendent Jay Badams.

"Whatever recovery we're experiencing in our economy has not found its way to our impoverished kids and families."

The Black Family: 40 Years of Lies
Kay S. Hymowitz

Read through the megazillion words on class, income mobility, and poverty in the recent New York Times series “Class Matters” and you still won’t grasp two of the most basic truths on the subject:

1. entrenched, multigenerational poverty is largely black; and

2. it is intricately intertwined with the collapse of the nuclear family in the inner city.

By now, these facts shouldn’t be hard to grasp.

Almost 70 percent of black children are born to single mothers.

Those mothers are far more likely than married mothers to be poor, even after a post-welfare-reform decline in child poverty.

They are also more likely to pass that poverty on to their children.

Sophisticates often try to dodge the implications of this bleak reality by shrugging that single motherhood is an inescapable fact of modern life, affecting everyone from the bobo Murphy Browns to the ghetto “baby mamas.”

Not so; it is a largely low-income—and disproportionately black—phenomenon.

The vast majority of higher-income women wait to have their children until they are married.

Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems.

More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty.

Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

In order to break the Democrats’ stranglehold on the black vote and free black Americans from the Democrat Party’s economic plantation, we must shed the light of truth on the Democrats.

We must demonstrate that the Democrat Party policies of socialism and dependency on government handouts offer the pathway to poverty, while Republican Party principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity.

"War on Poverty" and healthcare reform

In 1964, upon Johnson's request, Congress passed the Revenue Act of 1964 and the Economic Opportunity Act, which was in association with the war on poverty.

Johnson set in motion bills and acts,[64]

creating programs such as

Head Start,

food stamps,

Work Study,

Medicare

and Medicaid, which still exist today.

“I’ll have those n**-gers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”

- Lyndon B. Johnson

“These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness.

Now we’ve got to do something about this, we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.”

—Lyndon B. Johnson

Welfare At All-Time High Under Obama

A record 5.4 million workers have applied for federal disability checks since President Obama took office, according to a news report that cites recent government figures.

This is straining already-stretched government finances while posing a long-term economic threat by creating an ever-growing pool of permanently dependent working-age Americans, the report says.

Since the recession supposedly ended in mid 2009, the number of people who have applied for disability benefits is double the job growth figure, according the report which includes an informative chart.

In just the first four months of this year, 539,000 joined the disability rolls and more than 725,000 applied for the federal benefit.

That means nearly 11 million people are on disability, according to the Social Security Administration.

Obama Administration Outsourced Jobs with Stimulus Funding

“As long as I’m president, I will keep fighting to make sure jobs are located here in the United States of America,” said Obama.

...
...

However, Obama’s 2009 economic stimulus spending law--the $787 billion American Recovery and Reivnestment Act--gave millions of federal dollars to foreign companies or funded domestic companies that built factories in foreign countries or bought foreign products.

For example, there is the North Carolina LED manufacturer Cree Inc. Cree was awarded $39 million through a stimulus-funded tax credit program in January 2010. However, half of the company’s employees are in China and the company opened a manufacturing plant in Huizhou City, China in November 2009, according to an article in the industry publication LEDs Magazine.

..........
.........
.......

Another example of stimulus outsourcing is Japanese wind energy firm Eurus Energy, whose U.S. subsidiary, Eurus Energy America, received $91 million in stimulus funds to build a wind farm in Texas, according to a 2010 report from American University. That wind farm reportedly was built with wind turbines manufactured by another Japanese company – Mitsubishi.

“Eurus Energy America, the U.S. subsidiary of a Japanese firm, received $91 million in stimulus money for its Bull Creek wind farm in Texas. The farm consists of 180 Mitsubishi turbines,” the American University report said.

It's easy to blame all the poverty problems on the supposed insufficiencies of black people. That way, at least the downtrodden can use it as an excuse to feel good about themselves. But in reality, it's not really that simple. Tons of whites are out of work. Many of them educated. And, as far as voting goes, blacks really shouldn't be much of a problem... Blacks are only 12 percent of the population. A tenth of the voters (most inactive) really don't turn the tide all that much.

1. Multigenerational poverty is a myth that doesn't exist. Welfare reform in the clinton era stopped that

2. Collapse of the nuclear family in the inner city?? Bullshit! HALF of ALL marriages in the country fail, and more kids EVERYWHERE are raised by single moms! Collapse of the nuclear family is a nationwide trend that started loooong ago! But again... if you blame it on the blacks, everything will be fine....

Change that to the era of the Republican controlled congress for accuracy. But au contraire, your boy Obammy has signed an executive order against that also.

This paper endorsed Obama and all his welfare expansion programs.

This paper wants dependency, not self sufficiency!

..........

Right on........

1,000 to 2,000 eerie residents leave the the democrat controlled ghetto per year.

and what do they import?

Social service dependent leaches....fed, state and local handouts.

The immigration system in place today is the product of further liberalization, by Kennedy and others, of the already-liberal 1965 revision.

And any honest observer can see that the Massachusetts senator was not only wrong, but utterly and ridiculously wrong in his 1965 predictions.

For instance:

Our country is indeed flooded with a million immigrants annually.

In 2005, the number was 1,122,373.

And those are who came legally.

God only knows how many illegal aliens came.

America is indeed inundated with immigrants from the most populated and deprived nations.

At least 75% of today’s immigrants are from the Third World.

Nothing needs to be said about illegal aliens.

Unemployment rates rose in 44 US states in July

WASHINGTON — Unemployment rates rose in 44 U.S. states in July, the most states to show a monthly increase in more than three years and a reflection of weak hiring nationwide.

The Labor Department said Friday that unemployment rates fell in only two states and were unchanged in four.
