I hope this is the answer to Reading's problems. These cameras sound great. Good luck to all the law abiding people in Reading-this just might be the answer to "cleaning up the crime."

It sounds like these cameras are pretty darn good. If they can read a license number so far away that will be a big help. I hope so for your sake and all the other people in Reading who are being held "hostage"by the crime.

Bethlehem put up 4 so far and solved 4-5 crimes in the first week or so. Unfortunately, it might not stop the crime, but the people who are committing the crimes will be off the street faster with the help of these cameras.
Merry Christmas!

That all nice, but I think it would be better if the police actually enforced all the laws. I have worked in Reading for 12 years and I know where to find a cop, hiding in a park watching movies or talking to their buddies or double parked in front of the Marvel Cafe. Or maybe the have a "Law of The Day" kind of thing where they only enforce a law picked out of a hat.

Give tax breaks to business owners so they can have security cameras installed. That will do more to cut down on the crime.

Thanks to Berkshire Systems Group, Inc. for all their cooperation and tireless effort in completing the installation of the cameras and associated equipment.

Allentown has over 60 cameras installed and they cost on average with all infrastructure,$26,353 per camera. If you do the math in Reading, it is $56,000 per camera.
Someone needs to investigate this gross disparity!

Whether or not you see this as a bad (George Orwell "1984") type thing depends upon what you are doing within camera range and who is monitoring these cameras.

Every time you walk in a major grocery or department store, you are on TV. Get used to it.

All the camera business is good talk, but you need someone to enforce what is seen on the video images. Reading is always complaining about the debt they have, and how they can't hire anymore police officers, so who is going to do the enforcing? Do you really think one scumbag is going to rat out another scumbag? Or maybe the people that watch a man rob a little old lady and then tell the police they didn't see anything happen? People in the city need to unite for the crime rate to drop. PERIOD!

Stop it already. You people complain when no one does something-then when they do do something to deter crime-you have something else to complain about. Why don't you go to the police academy and see if you can get through. Then you can enforce the law and watch the cameras.

Please stop bashing police officers. Would you want to be a policeman these days? They are here to serve and protect. If you can do better than go ahead.I guarantee you won't make it.

Well instead of complaining about it here start calling the police more often. If your neighborhood is that bad then talk to the people in your community... all of you can call with your concerns. Or better yet just get a bunch of you together and go down to the police station and talk to someone. Think about a neighborhood watch program. The vast majority of law enforcment is doing their best. They are overwhelmed... if this kind of crime is going on in your neighborhood imagine how tough the officers jobs are!! No offense intended but you have to stop complaining and do something about it. Express concerns to your local law enforcment and talk to your neighbors... simply fight back!!
